Yeah it's a fairly easy swap as lots of people are doing it now. Existing cooling pack will work and then it's just a case of ECU and wiring.
I'm planning to run the 6 speed BMW 'box with an adapter to the LT230. I'd thought about running the R380 but I think it would struggle after a better turbo and a remap. I'll be swapping for a 1:1 transfer box ratio as the BMW 6th gear is actually lower than the R380 5th. The transfer box change will bring it quite close to Puma gearing so 2000 rpm in top will be approximately 63mph 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Be following with great interest!
The 6 speed auto or manual? Could be a nice conversion instead of a 3UZ V8 Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |

Cost so far is nothing. My cousin gave me the engine and gearbox out of a car he's breaking. I'd imagine it'll be about £1500 all in, which I'll be able to recover most of if I sell on my engine and gearbox.

Great stuff! I don't have family like that sadly. My cousin wouldn't even dream of giving me anything like that at all. My pals would though. In return in helping me put it all together Are you going to be doing custom mounts, or will this lot just bolt straight in? I have a very close knit family so I'm very lucky in that regard
I'm not sure what's happening engine mount wise yet. I'm going to attempt to not cut or drill anything so I would imagine I'll have to do some fabrication. I plan to use the active BMW engine mounts if I can 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

good stuff, last thing you want to be doing is cutting, that you don't need, the metro lads Christ were a nightmare! " you need to cut this", "you need to cut that" "you need to do this etc"
Me I got that off with it, that me and my dad did a dry fit on the subframe. it all fitted as though it was OEM! we didn't need to do anything at all. Later found out, from a metro racing driver, that I could have did the wiring loom my self, with out paying £70 quid. He said I could have told you the pin layout if I knew you were doing a vvc conversion. Only 6 earths on the loom needed to be moved I would do another engine conversion again, but i would make sure that the support and parts were at hand. If i knew the hassle i was going to have, i wouldnt have even gone anywhere near metros again. Yeah, I'm lucky in the fact that the M57 is a popular conversion for defenders so it should be pretty smooth sailing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Nothing has happened with the M57 yet. I've got it on an engine stand ready for partial stripping, inspection and cleaning (with a few upgrades along the way).
Whilst the 90 was in the workshop, sheltering from storm Dennis, I did a few little tweaks. One of them was to rubber mount all of the central locking actuators so that it doesn't sound like you're slamming the gate shut on a jail cell when you lock it Now it locks with a gentle click (a bit like my parents L322) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I didn't actually, basically I just put rubber grommets in the holes and a washer behind the screw head. Effectively isolating the actuator from the metal completely 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
