Thanks Steve - my MAF sensor just died and its a lot cheaper in the UK Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Mines has been very good since doing them, I'm convinced that the performances is better.
But they were getting on, and I hadn't noticed a drop in MPG for a while beforehand.

Just replaced both but when I took my MAP sensor out it was covered in oil which I’m assuming is not a good thing. What should I be checking?

Just rang to ford dealers and was quoted £298.85 for the maf sensor
p/n 6c11 12b 579aa which is dearer than Landrover which was £175.00 can someone let me know where they purchased one cheaper

If it is believed the original MAF and MAP sensors were out of calibration then this should be easy to confirm by testing the old parts and comparing to the new replacements under the same operating conditions. Hopefully you have retained the old parts to allow this testing to be conducted? It would be excellent to show results side by side between old and new. Both MAF and MAP values are available on the CAN Bus and are easy to record. Or the actual sensor outputs can be measured using an Oscilloscope and Frequency counter. "You are never to old to learn something new"

Someone has mentioned to me that they received a used part from Catherine St Motors the Ford dealership. (Mine was brand new Genuine and never had a problem at all.)

I would recommend you use PayPal as a payment option if you use it as protection just in case.

This aside, it definitely was worthwhile on my 90. And she’s been running nicely ever since. Such parts however are not worth LR’s astronomical pricing at all.
Especially seeing as they are the same parts, from the same manufacturer for the same motor ... Ford.

A short note following on from above.

Yes, it would be useful to see air metering specs before and after etc during a change from old to new. Although I guess by nature would be variable from vehicle to vehicle.

In my instance it was not something I could do, I only have equipment capable of reading DTC’s and not live data.

However, the original parts on my 90 were around 12yrs old I would imagine from new.
And although I don’t do high mileage, I would say that lifespan was pretty good!

Regarding changes from before and after I would say the MAP actually made the most noticeable improvement once changed.

These aren’t parts you need to swap often, they can be cleaned periodically like I did.
But after some time I feel a replacement was a better option and was worthwhile.
So if you have a pre 2012 I’d certainly go for it. Those with 2.2’s I would clean ever other year or once a year for now, think about replacement down the line somewhat instead.

P.S. If anyone does do a swap over, especially of both components AND has live data access of specs.
Please do feel free to post up here your findings, as this would be very interesting.

If a few manage to do this a more broad picture of comparison could be found to see if there is a decline in MAP or MAF performance over time.
As both parts are performance critical, even down to MPG amongst others that could have a tangible effect over a period of time you wouldn’t otherwise notice. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I have the equipment to measure these sensors and can compare results between them to post on this forum. I did quite a detailed study of the MAF and temperature sensor and posted on this forum a few years ago that debunked a lot of the hearsay. If you have your old suspect sensors sitting around I could run some tests on them. I would compare them against my srnsors running on the same engine on the same day at the same temperature and the same measured engine rev spot points to prevent measurement errors. Ideally they should be tested simultaneously along side each other but if they are mounted in different positions in the air intake this may add more variability.
I take your point that these devices may go out of calibration over a long time and therefore give the ECU the wrong measured value signal but it would be nice to quantify this drift.
Ideally it would be good to have a gold standard sensor as the main reference but for now just comparing newer against older would be a good start. "You are never to old to learn something new"

I would imagine so. Ideally you want to compare the parameters and specs to be sure, the trouble is I couldn’t seem to find these details only P/N’s.

There shouldn’t be any difference for the same motor.

The Tuners like Gary @ Alive or BAS probably do know, they may be best to ask.
After all their work involves such things as airflow parameters etc.

Bosch has changed the P/N’s as I found, but to updated parts that are compatible in the same way.

Alternatively you could take a look at the Ford P/N. On mine, there was two P/N’s for both manufacturers.

So I can only but assume Ford, sourced the parts from Bosch. And then Ford sold to LR to the customer. Hence the inflated pricing. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Hello, I did take your advise and ordered a MAF and MAP sensors, the MAF sensor was a success, but the MAP sensor company sent me a refund, and said they had ran out of stock. I am now in the process of finding another MAP sensor, at the correct price of course. Its not a easey task as you know.
