Regular Diesel & DPF
Hello,

I just wanted to know if regular diesel would be okay in a Defender 2.2 with DPF ? I know that some cars like the Mercedes Diesels with DPF and ADblue are not compatible and will trigger a CEL Light due to a clogged DPF.

I couldn't find any information online regarding the compatibility. Using the EURO diesel over here is 3 times more expensive than regular diesel so I was curious to see what are the implications.

Thank you in advance, 2016 Defender 90 Adventure Edition

Not sure what you mean with the difference between regular diesel and Euro diesel. Here in Europe, all cars, including those with DPF/Adblue, drive on what we consider to be regular diesel, and a smaller number on premium diesel which is just the same thing plus some additives. You cannot buy anything else here than our regular or premium diesel.
What’s different your end?

As far as I now you need to use low sulphur diesel. What is the limit for the Defender. I do not know. 50, 15 ppm of S? Puma 110" SW

Fuel is expensive in Kuwait?? Or is it that Euro Diesel is 30p a Gallon instead of 10p? Wink)
Just been to Albania and used 10ppm Diesel called „Euro 5“ or sometimes „blue Diesel“ instead of 50ppm „Euro 4“ or just „Diesel“.
Difference in price was just 10% though.

If you looked in the manual you would just find the required Euronorm (EN) standard for the diesel.

And you may also find out that diesel up to 3000 ppm can be used.

Euro Diesel which is the premium diesel over here costs $66 to fill up my Defender, the regular diesel will cost me around $19 and change.

My previous defender 2.2 ROW spec didn't have a DPF and wasn't as sensitive as this newer one which has a DPF, thus after searching around I have decided to decat sans DPF and run a DPF patch file from BAS. 2016 Defender 90 Adventure Edition

You're not in Europe.

You could just visit a retailer and have you're engine modified in compliance with ROW standard.

No big deal. And you're going to obtain an original (professional) ROW ECU remap from Land Rover.

Why order a suppliers modifications ?

If you ordered two ROW kits from JLR, I'll buy the second one. Be sure of that.

Why don’t you use fuel additive such as Millers? Or is supply an issue for you there? Just an idea. Then you can use regular diesel with it. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

The BAS mod is based on European fuel standards. They will not have tested the engine using different foreign fuels.

If you want to switch to ROW standard, you'll have to count on Land Rover.

If you want to rely on European standards, you may leave as is or get it tuned by some European (e.g. BAS).

Just installed the DPF decat pipe from Allisport & New tune update DPF patch removal from BAS(done remotely via OBD2 port).

I can feel a difference in turbo as the turbo spool is much faster sub 2,000rpm. Very happy Smile

Thinking of doing replacing the mid silencer with an allisport sport version which has less restriction.

Pictures to follow soon. 2016 Defender 90 Adventure Edition
