When I did mine, I used some plastic arches that were intended for a Transit tipper:

Landy Andy of this parish fitted Defender arches to his, but he made a complete overlay for each trailer side that was profiled to suit:

I've bought some steel to see if I can fill in the gaps... ^ I cannot weld so need to find some way.
Don't think the overall look it too bad. Still need to make a cover that opens.... Click image to enlarge |

I just bonded on alli sheet that I had cut with jigsaw. I cut so had extra material at wheel arches, then cut that so I could bend tabs inside to hold the arches on.

Landy Andy, I like the way you've added material underneath as well. Makes it all fit together nicely
I had my tame welder stitch in some corner fillets Click image to enlarge At some point I'll get round to adding the arches to mine 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Ahh that image makes it clearer. You've over skinned the whole side of the tub? I had wondered how you'd got such a smooth looking finish 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I'm with you also, I could not see the joins...
Nice job, was it expensive for the sheet? As for the sides cut out I will have a go.... not sure how to fix them.. |

Really cheap, and really easy.
Was about 15 each side. Pack of jiga blades, and some time with a file. Used the wheel arch off a defender as the guide for cut out, then added about an inch onto that. I then cut it out and left the extra inch sections where the fixing studs for the arches were, and then bent them inward, so I could easy fix wheel arches. I used the holes where the tie down cleats are so I could dry fit and use for marking out. Then when ready glued it on with tigerseal. Then bolted through the cleats, and where the side reflectors are. |

Great
Where did you get the alloy sheet from, and what thickness? I doubt I can do this for now but worth looking into. Cheers |

Ok so back from work and had a go at making a cover out of some steel and brackets.
This should make the corners better with the arches on. 3 more to make and spray.. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
