Update on this...

It worked! The heated rear screen switch plugged in to the blue rear screen wash plug powers up the winch solenoid via a patch lead from the rear wash pump econoseal connector to the solenoid in the near side battery/seat box.

One issue though... the switch does not illuminate when I turn lights on? The orange light illuminates to show that the switch is active but goes out when the vehicle lights are on. Any thoughts?

The rear washer switch's illumination is wired 'backwards' compared to most of the other switches.

Both switches switch a live from pin 1 to pin 4

The HRW switch's illumination has its live on pin 2, with its earth on pin 5

The rear washer switch's illumination has its live on pin 5, with its earth on pin 2

You could swap the wires between pin 2 and pin 5 in the rear washer switch's connector.

Or, you could split the HRW and rear washer switches, and use the bottom half of the rear washer switch, with the latching top half of the HRW switch.

Any idea whether the freelander rear wash switch is wired the same? These are more readily available

Yes, the Freelander-1 rear wash/wipe switch is wired the same as the Defender switch -

Live switched from pin-1 to pin-4

Illumination in on pin-5, earth on pin-2

However, it uses the Black 5-way connector, rather than the Blue one.
