I'm sure that they'll fit. I just don't know if they have the same rating. This is all just supposition based on the fact that LR used them in the 90 but not the 110, though. Darren

Given you ‘know your onions’ when it comes to Def maintenance, you may have seen on another thread that I have some drivetrain slack. Initial thoughts start with flanges/half shafts, but some have said the diff. Ive just done a 30min drive and noticed (for the first time) on a flat road, 90kmh, not pushing hard, that when i lifted off the accelerator and reapplied on the accelerator, that there is a very slight but still noticeable clunk on engagement. Any ideas if this is likely to be flange or diff? Monsieur Le Grenadier

As for the Disco V8 one piece halfshafts they do fit. They are 28mm diameter compared to 32ish mm std Defender halfshafts. Puma 110" SW

Any tips on the best way to check for play in the a frame ball joint? Mine has had the half shafts done but I still get an audible clunk when braking or accelerating.

It can be difficult!
-GoPro under the car and make it clunk. -Replace the joint and see if it stops. It is often very hard to detect movement by traditional prybar techniques. |

Damper bushes are worth checking too, especially in the rear I've known those to cause a few issues and you'd neve think it would be them.

Clutch is new, albeit I'm not liking it as much as the original (it is still OE), as it's noisier than the last and not nearly as smooth. Output shaft was also changed at the same time. Based on those two items being tackled, I did wonder at the transfer box, but the noise and clunk seem to come from further back. Rear right specfically, where I think the damper is failing and is the reason I have bought the a new set of Bilsteins. I'll check the half shafts for W&T, but I'm wondering with new dampers if I just change the a-frame ball joints, flanges and bushes all at the same time. Not so long ago, I was dealing with the same thing. A knock from the rear that had developed quite suddenly.
I was away from home, suited and booted, so unable to start guddling about under the car. Because the shocks were new (not fitted by me though) I was thinking 'A frame balljoint' and asked some questions here about that. Got home, underneath the car with a pry bar, but the cause was really obviously the NS rear, lower shock bush. It was a long way from tight, and looked like someone had mangled the thread trying to fit it.... badly. I managed to get a grip on the shock, and nip up the nut, and the knock disappeared. It sounded like something much more substantial and heavy than a rear shock bush.... Guddling, now there’s a good word.
Mine definitely sounds and feels more like ‘slack’ tightening up on drive, than a clunk or knock. I’ll listen again and see if I can be any more precise. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
