TD5 rev counter - the cheap option
Was looking to get a rev counter for my 110, bought a cheap universal diesel on on eBay for 20 quid and added a W terminal to back of alternator. Didn't even have to take alternator off, was able to take back cover plate off from underneath

Very interesting! I've always been under the impression that even adding a W terminal wouldn't work due to the 5 cylinder vs 4 cylinder thing. Have you "calibrated" it against a nanocom or similar?

Any details on the mod to add the terminal?

Yeah wasn't sure it would work either - but set it up with nanocom at idle and at 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 rpm it was reading accurate. I bought the cheapest gauge I found for a diesel on eBay , partly because I wasn't sure it would work and partly it was reasonably simple in looks. It has no jumpers on the rear just a calibration screw. All I did with alternator was disconnect wire and remove the rear cover - managed to do it with alternator still in place, there a series of screws holding the rectifier plate onto alternator when you remove back cover one of these screws will be facing straight down towards the floor, i just attached a cable to that and ran it up to back of instruments, connected it up and all done.

It is a fiddle getting rear cover off but better than pulling alternator out. I will upload a photo of where to attach wire if that helps

Doesnt matter how many cylinders the engine has, the alternator still spins at the same speed. The only variable is the ratio of the crank and alternator pulley size 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

These are photos from my spare alternator. I took off the rear cover and fitted a wire to the screw coming off the end of the stator
