Well I would sort of hope they can impliment the pull up resistor internally themselves as it would be neater than a resistor on the outside. You never know maybe one of those switches on the back may activate a pull up anyway

but at lest you have proved that your one work ok. CIA need to up date fitting instruction. re pull up resistor internally switches or not |

Hello all,
It is really special that the rev counter of Clive works as it should, without resistor, connecting and ready. Mine has been back at Smiths since Wednesday. I'm curious about which solution they come up with. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer from them. GerardTd5 |

Clive's works due to the ABS ECU containing the required pull up resistor.
Non ABS cars don't have any pull up on the signal line so it HAS to be in the tacho or its wiring. Glad to help sort this out, although I don't think it was totally believed about it ![]() Slightly disappointed that CAI did not at least try this themselves and it came down to me to resolve on their behalf. If they would like to send me a rev counter in exchange for my consultancy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Martin,
mine also has ABS, the rev counter gets a signal but does not respond to it. If I understand you correctly, a resistor will not help me. Those without ABS now know what to do to solve the problem. ![]() ![]() |

Yes! I now have a working tachometer. Tested it this afternoon, used the info. from CAI and checked the readings against a scan tool.
Here is a list of the six wires. red/blue-----------------------pulse from pin 19 red-----------------------------ign. live 12v green--------------------------ign. live 12v black---------------------------earth red/white----------------------gauge illumination 12v from other gauge or side lights white/black--------------------unused Hope this helps. |

So much for the first email response saying no you definitely don't need a pull up
