CAI/Smiths have tachometers that work with ECU output and require
resistive load to work units have resistors in cct witch can switch in or out |

I thought the TD5 ECU outputs a 50% duty cycle square wave with a peak amplitude of 5V not 12V as CAI email implies??

Does Clive have an ABS unit connected which could be performing the function of the pull-up circuit? If he has ABS and noone else has who is trying that might explain the discrepancy. CAI's test vehicle may have too.

You need a resistor of a few Kilohms between the signal wire (the White/Slate down to the ECU) and the 12V supply (ignition supply NOT illumination!)
The Td5 ECU does have a programmable option for the rev counter but I've never heard of it being off. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Rallysteve that does sound logical! We'll have to wait and see what the others say.
Martin so do you mean have everything connected and squeeze the resistor between the signal cable and the green switched live then fire up the car and see what happens? If so I'll give that a go on the weekend. 👍 |

Yes, all connected up, add the resistor into the wire side of the connector if you can. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Yes, I do have ABS on my 90, I questioned the same thing myself a few posts back. I also checked the ECU configuration earlier and found the tachometer output IS enabled, as Martin says though, this is probably the case with all of them, in much the same way that some other functions are enabled by default whether they're fitted or not. Click image to enlarge I can also confirm that the ECU tacho output IS 12v and not 5v, I checked this with an oscilloscope to be certain. |

How have you guys wired these up?
Can't find instructions online specific to the Td5 version (Clive mentions a lot earlier about instructions mentioning ABS and pre/post 2002 models). Anyway, What wires are left over after connecting up as instructed? Do you have a brown/slate one left over? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

I had two wires left over, a red and a red/blue.
