Not got around to doing the tipper storage doors yet...had enough of painting at the moment!
Fitted the passenger door as after 3 goes at painting it, it's good enough to fit! Got the fuel filler refitted, diesel in, some injector cleaner etc in the fuel filter and it started really quickly after letting it purge. Better than it did before I took it all apart. Click image to enlarge You learn to do things when you're working on your own - particularly when you stupidly store the diesel in a big can without a spout... Click image to enlarge The breather pipe was just lying around when i took tank out and after a quick search on here, i found that LR had a fix to mount it on the fuel filler neck on Pumas with leaks- TD5 one on here isn't long enough to reach the neck, but plenty of room to mount it above tank with the tipper setup. Has anyone got any experience of locating this breather so it doesn't leak etc? Click image to enlarge Not a huge fan of stickers/badges etc, but thought a subtle reproduction plaque/badge might be suitable - Tenner off ebay Click image to enlarge Fixed the old key! Click image to enlarge Fitted a spare wheel mount on the back of the tipper:- Click image to enlarge Will try and get a spare wheel cover for a 285... Arches arrived today - hoping to get them fitted by end of the week... |

Bit slack on the updates...
Got most of it back together now and a lot of fiddly bits sorted. Rear wheel arches were fun! I could not find any to suit the 285s, so had to buy double width lorry ones and reduce the width... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Fuel filter guard bent from steel sheet, painted and fitted... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Standard filthy working defender interior...washed and scrubbed! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Both front outriggers replaced... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge One of the rear bump stop mounts was rotten...so i cut it off and made a new one to weld on Click image to enlarge Two new track rod ends and the other two ends had new boots for MOT.. New steering damper as I had one in stock and I presume the one on there is ancient! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Tidied up centre console that was hanging off. removed the LR radio that no one knew the code for...fitted a basic CD unit I had kicking about New aerial fitted...and low and behold both speakers work - even better when i removed all the woodchip from them! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Quite pleased with how the old girl is looking with arches on and a nice blackened chassis and some shiny new tailgate pins! I can no longer see any rusty bits anywhere! Click image to enlarge Left to do... -Fit windscreen which is here and I have been putting it off -change all the box and axle fluids -fit rear bump stops as I keep forgetting -flashband the passenger door -fit some grab handles to doors to pull them shut -fit the front mud flap kit that arrived today and maybe look at making some outrigger mud guard thingys from some plastic sheet -MOT at local(ish) landy place and get them to see why it is rather flat to drive. -get a price from them for clutch and any faults which are causing the lack of power -modify the hilux surf rock sliders to fit -drive it for a bit then most likely advertise it as the more i look at it, the more i realise I cannot get wife, toddler and two dogs in it! I have also managed to sell my green and cream 110 - but had to take a PX So now have this to tidy up and move on:- https://flic.kr/s/aHsmiNFnuf Click image to enlarge |

Very very nice ,really like the choice of wheels so easy to go with alloys ,length of the bed is just right and the colour just set the complete truck off.

Thank you for the kind words!
Bit slow on the recent updates...but it's now MOT'd - not sorted the lack of power - but it usable and legal! So since last update i've fitted windscreen, adapted rock sliders, tidied up more interior, changed all the fluids underneath, fitted rear bump stops and MOT'd Rock sliders:- Hacked off hilux mounts:- Click image to enlarge Offered them up:- Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge reused as much of old brackets as possible to make new brackets and extend them to fit:- Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Mounts on bulkhead bolts at front as most sliders do... Click image to enlarge Extended them a few inches and added some nice chunky box to locate them on the spare chassis outrigger I also welded an extra bit of 6mm plate to the outer 100mm of the rectangular box section mounting - I thought this might make a good jacking point and a bit of extra steel wouldn't go amiss? Click image to enlarge Primed:- Click image to enlarge Painted and fitted:- Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge M12 bolts x 3 and large plate washers. Click image to enlarge Fresh fluids:- Click image to enlarge Just back from MOT Click image to enlarge And before any keen of sight spot it....I didn't do any welding with the full drum of acetone propping up the slider when on the ramp Last edited by stanstorey on 31st Jul 2018 10:02pm. Cool I'm very jealous of your ability to glue steel together. Darren
