Bit of progress over the week...it's been painted
I must stress, this is not a guide to painting as I've not really got a clue what I am doing and am just doing a bit of googling and have watched a friend paint a few of my trucks in the past Conditions aren't ideal as i i don'y have a dust free booth etc, but it's come out OK for a farm spray job! Another delivery of odds and ends as well Front shocks to match, drive flange shims for the back axle, PAS res., brake flexi and a bonnet stay clip Click image to enlarge New flexi and a front to rear brake pipe made with the kit I bought - not at all tricky to make, am pleased I have it for future pipes! Click image to enlarge Masking up truck Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Wings and bonnet chequerplate is well and truly riveted on and is being etched and undercoated before i'll mask up panels again and paint it black. It was pretty filthy from years of tree related grime...took a lot of time and strands of wire flying at my legs Click image to enlarge Paint - using tractol coach enamel which is supposedly relatively straight forward to use for muppets who've not painted a car before.. ETCH 1 coat Click image to enlarge Undercoat 1 coat Click image to enlarge Top coat 2 coats No photo, i think it's TRACTOL 329 or Tekaloid T318 is the same type of stuff. Can be brushed and rollered as it levels well. Etch primed - probably a bit overkill as a dusting may have done the same job Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Undercoated Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Top coat of limestone - decided to stick to a single colour all over and not stray from original designation of white on V5C, I also rather like limestone. Hoping to do a limestone, gloss black theme and see how it looks...can always paint it again! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Vent flaps on so they do not get damaged - fitted with new stainless pins. Click image to enlarge Very annoyed with myself as I thinned the second top coat down a smidge too much and had a few runs which i'll have to flat out at some point when it's all hardened (it was 6.45am on Wednesday morning and i was a bit bleary eyed ) Click image to enlarge I'll put it back together when the stainless door hinge bolts and J nuts arrive and the paint has hardened further. |

Thanks for the comments
Bit more this week...started putting bits back on and starred painting wheels and tipper back panels etc. Matching front shocks fitted, finished wiring up rear lights, new PAS reservoir - hence puddle on floor in a few pictures New door seals, seals between upper and lower doors, new hinges, stainless hinge bolts etc Door locks:- Antiburst locks need a hole drilled:- Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 20mm gromits with the centres cut out work a treat for finishing the hole... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Tipper frame back on after another coat of black as I forgot to cover it up whilst spraying truck and it got a light misting of limestone Click image to enlarge Lesson learnt! Click image to enlarge Wheels masked, etched, undercoated and two top coats:- Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Stripping the high vis decals off the tailgate - what a faff! Click image to enlarge side panels ready for paint Click image to enlarge Front end back on with chequerplate gloss blacked (did i mention i bloody hate the stuff ) New HD bumper, bumper bolts, various screws, grill, light surrounds, headlights due to be changed as they're a bit knackered. My 110 pics are here:-
https://www.flickr.com/photos/44718474@N02...5843363675 I have provisionally sold it by taking a PX with another lower priced 110 van to get some needed cash back in. Have really struggled to sell it - it's just a bit niche...despite being a cracking truck, it is only likely to be a toy/play thing for someone. |

I've had people say it's worth £10k...but no bites near that figure and the market is usually a good judge!
I'd take £8500 as it is - the only thing that I would change for more regular and heavy use is removing the front mount intercooler as it is restricting a bit of air flow to the 200TDI rad, which is a little small for the size of the engine as it is. It doesn't get particularly hot in normal running about (a thermal gun said the water outlet on head was 82c after a 15mile run. I have not done the work as it might be buyer dependent upon what route they would prefer to go. Options:- -Refitting a TDI side mounted intercooler as it was when i got it and upgrade the fan to a decent branded setup i.e Revotec - which i have already bought. -As above and getting the TDI rad recored with an extra fourth core. -fitting a full width V8 rad or equivalent and removing intercooler entirely or fitting a top mount with a bonnet scoop all work which could be done for a buyer! I had a 130 with a 24v 4.2 in it, the previous owner had transfered the LC gearbox and transferbox and it had a fifth wheel 50mm in the bed and it's own matching trailer - now that was an animal! Album of pics:- https://www.flickr.com/photos/44718474@N02...7303238714 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge This had an FD35T in it, really miss this one! Click image to enlarge 2.8 Isuzu:- Click image to enlarge 3.1 Isuzu:- Click image to enlarge And for sale - cannot sell it either - seems jap engined land rover market isn't good right now! FD35T in this which is buried at a mates farm pending solving a fuelling issue! Click image to enlarge Note wheels are now on 130! |

This one is local to me.
The mechanic I use had it in with the Mazda engine ceased solid. That was taken out, Rover V8 4.6 plus auto box I think added. Then the huge body took off and converted to double cab with hicap body on rear. Dunno who owns it, but did see it in Oxfordshire. |

That's the one, I contacted the Chap I sold it to a couple of months ago to see how he was getting on, as he said his eventual plan was to double cab it.
Its been sold a few years now. He said he'd gone v8 auto and double can hicap, which is exactly what I'd have done with it given the budget and time! He sent me a pic pre paint! https://flic.kr/p/JBJdL8 |

Tipper back took a day of solid work to get it welded up and painted - and more time to get the alloy panels sprayed up, but am pleased i made the effort!
Pre "hold on tight" farm spec pressure washer session Click image to enlarge Plasma cutting...and welding a big 3mm plate in - it needed a few localised repairs and is a bit beat about in the bed, as you would expect. but it is solid enough and I cannot spend any more time on it, it'll only get more dents! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge After a lot of grinder work and an etch prime and a coat of chassis black...also been stone chipped underneath. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Rear bar will go back on as well, minus the high chip sides and rear doors for the moment Click image to enlarge Frame, ram and hydraulics mounted up. Is rather nice using new bolts! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Wheels and arches on and the bed mounted on thanks to some telehandler use again! Gives a good feel for final look... Think i might do the side locker doors limestone as they look a bit lost in the black... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Small things left to do minus all the jobs i've forgotten:- clutch, windscreen, sort/tidy interior, bleed brakes, refit fuel filler neck - fill tank - purge system and pray it starts, fit other door, make a fuel filter guard, adapt some hilux rock sliders to fit, mount spare on tipper bulkhead, weld in outriggers - finish welding chassis in front of rear axle (waiting for ramp to be free), new front track rod end or two, change fluid in axles/Gbox/Tbox, fit rear wheel arches (should be here tomorrow) MOT Fix any other problems which will no doubt appear when back in use... |

That looks really good.
Around my way a few years back, Wilts council bought about 60 130's and had custom rest bodies on them, a bit like yours, but with more of a box nehind the cab (and an upright chrome stack on each one! Td5's) These were for "parish stewards"... in short, a single crew who could go out and mow verges, strim around signs, fix small potholes etc etc. They use Ford rangers now. |

That looks fantastic. I'm particularly liking the Disco steel wheels! Darren
