Oh there's was no issue with the shims, just thinner ones wouldn't fit as well like on the OE flanges.
Perfect fit with the larger shim. I found the orientation was with the larger shim the papered side out away from vehicle and the circlip tapered side in. Perfect fit, and this was Ashcroft HD flanges on OE splines on the front. On the rear I'm going to replace the halfshafts and the flanges. The drive is better already I do know, obviously the rear needs doing yet but I can tell a difference for certain. I shall have to stop thread hi-jacking this thread.
But tonight I completely finished the job on the front and changed the axle oil over as well, the first time I've done it myself and all went well. The Sealey 1LTR pump helped a lot and filled to 1.7L pretty much to filler level. The filler plug was a bit of a pain, my breaker bar was too long and 1/2" ratchet couldn't quite get enough purchase on it as it was quite tight. Very careful use of an old 1/2" ratchet held square on and the bottle jack on the ratchet handle eased it off and no problem from then on. Filler and drain plug torqued to 60NM. No emulsion or moisture in there, but oil was pretty dark so was definitely due a change. Replaced with Fuchs Sintopoid 75w - 90, same brand on the rear. Rather pleased with myself over all that, a nicer job to do compared to the Prop UJ's. Thank you to those of you who provided advice, very helpful indeed. Much better to ask questions and consult the WSM first than go at it hung ho and make mistakes. Fitted my Ashcroft Drive Members yesterday to my 110.
Had fitted Ashcroft shafts and CVs approx 6k miles ago (along with their lockers (nice hypoid rear diff locker too) at the time i fitted some new drive members to. surprisingly amount of wear in the drive members for 6k miles., esp rear. New Ashcroft HD ones went on a dream, no noticeable play in them. meaning no wear in their shafts or CVs, just wear in replacement drive members. I am confident these will outlast the rest of the vehicle now. Had Ashcroft shafts and CVs with their DM running 37" for 8 years with no wear so i am sure they will cope with my 235.85s! Have the added benefit of being sealed too with o ring so less chance of those capping seeping water in /oil out! One more truck to do and thats the lot done then. Excellent, that's good to hear.
Perhaps now shortly we can enjoy the summer instead of spannering. No Guts, No Glory.

i found an hour on friday evening too so fitted the other set to the soft top. That had new DM approx 2k miles ago, there was some wear on the rear DM already (!), front was fine. (has ashcroft shafts and CVs).
Took a few pics to show steps i took and tools used. I used Nord Loc and no loctite to fit allen bolts. Used supplied gaskets coated in grease each side. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Good job. Should also ease future maintenance oo without the loctite type thread locker and far far reduce and likelyhood of any bolts snapping.
That's the key I think is to take your time and go easy on them, I found undoing them going easy enough just to crack them off was best practice without trying to force them too fast. From there just wind them out in stages so heat doesn't build up too much and cause bolt expansion. Loosening and re-fitting with the same pattern technique as removing wheel nuts. Not just going bolt 1 2 3 4 5, but opposites I.e. 1 5 2 4 3 if that makes sense. No Guts, No Glory.

Pretty much the same thing, just cracking them off is the risky part.
Some are definitely a little tighter than others. No Guts, No Glory.

Mine arrived today.
Superb next day delivery as well! I only ordered 12:30 yesterday lunchtime, and the packing is brilliant. In fact it took me a while to get them out. Probably crack on with them tomorrow at some point. No Guts, No Glory.

Started today on the rear:
Click image to enlarge This is what I found, the splines are dry and past it but the shims appear missing?! I can use two spare from the front but they arenโt thick enough but will all the same. Iโll still carry on the job. I would have thought there should be shims present or am I missing something?
