Least interesting update ever, but progress is progress!
Replaced the really cr@p fog light that had been glued on with sikaflex. Toffee wheel took care of that mess nicely. That fog light looks much better than the one 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Hmm, so some guy just knocked on my door asking if the Ninety is for sale. Father in law said no and sent him away, but now I'm nervous.
He was in a Defender and we got the reg just in case, that makes me slightly happier that it wasn't a transit van suggesting the occupants can redo driveways. Not that I'm stereotyping... Bonkers I've had this for two years and all I've managed to do is fit a soft top roof (which I removed again) and a fog light!
I massively underestimated how much time a house project and two little kids take up Still, at least I've saved it from being cut up and it must be quickly appreciating Finally managed a few hours on it this weekend and in the ongoing game of roof hokey cokey, soft top went back on, gave the old girl her first wash in my ownership and finally got it back in the garage Looks good eh? I had the privilege of all too briefly seeing this in the flesh this weekend, albeit still wearing its truck cab, but it's got so much character it makes me very envious, even if it would rank second in a list of least practical family vehicles (motorbike would have to be first, surely?)
I can only agree on how much of a time vacuum kids are but apparently your not allowed to list them on eBay anymore. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Nice to meet you Rosco, sorry we had to dash off otherwise I'd have been happy to do the tour and chat LR's!
Guess you didn't make it to Caffeine & Machine up the road? Right, arty pictures out of the way, onto the realities of LR ownership - can't get the drivers door open! Its got the old lift up handles as pic. Door locked closed. Key doesn't turn. Locking 'peg' inside doesn't have any effect, nor does the internal handle. Any advice on getting the door open? So far I've got: 1) Drill the lock barrel out. 2) Unbolt the hinges, then strip door card off, then maybe 1. I've got replacement barrels... I very nearly took my door tops off and fitted the summer canopy, though I expect this weather may not stick around |

It does look very nice.
With regards to the door lock, have you had the door trim off and a good look at the mechanism? To my eye, from the photo it looks as though that is already a replacement door lock & handle. Are you sure - beyond any doubt - that the key you are using is the correct key for that lock? Sounds a stupid question, but once in the realms of old Land Rovers, nothing can be assumed! |

Cheers chaps
Slidey, I can't get the door trim off as its locked closed. No idea if the lock has been replaced or not, but the key that works in the passenger side and used to work in the drivers door is well worn so expect they've been fitted a good while. Chassis wise, errm more patches than a pirate convention! Its had recent bulkhead outriggers and a new rear crossmember at some point. I think its solid enough for now, but ideally given time/money it would get a galv replacement. In the meantime I'll grind back the surface grot and get some paint protection on it. Have you tried wiggling the key as you turn it? I've got the same problem on the passenger side of my 90 and i've sometimes had to spend 2 - 3 minutes wiggling it before it will open. I only persevere that long cos i'm 100% sure it's the correct key and it will open eventually. I'll get round to changing the lock one day.......or get locked out completely

Great success
Click image to enlarge Got it open! Removing the hinge bolts didn't help as door latch was still locked around trouser ripping device. Just about to select drill bit for destruction of barrel when a quick poke around with a bent coat hanger and some choice words it popped open. Of course, now the opposite problem of trying to get it to close Need to play with the shims and possible replace the sloppy hinges to get a good fit again. Still, one step forward two steps back.
