Tdi Breakdown Help! Battery light/alternator
Hello,
I'm not overly technical so looking for some advice, when I turn the engine off on my 200tdi, the battery light will not turn off. The only way to turn it off is to disconnect the battery. When I put the ignition on the light does not illuminate like it usually would, but I have checked with a multimeter and the battery is charging.

Could it possibly be the ignition switch? I don't want to damage anything by driving home?

P.S. I heard the fanbelt squeal a little bit earlier, it is a little loose but not particularly - maybe just a coincidence?

Many thanks Thumbs Up BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

I would guess that an alternator fault could be the reason your ignition light is not going off. Might also account for the fan belt squeal.

Very likely one of the diodes in the alternator has failed. Cheers, Vincent

I have a Discovery 200tdi in my 90, I'm struggling to understand the difference between a left and right hand fitting? I think left? Question BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

You should be able to just change the rectifier pack, rather than the whole alternator.

Check the belt is tight first. The switch off problem could be the fuel solenoid in the top on the injector Pump.
