I can't even remember hitting any big pot holes but that might be because most of the roads are one big pot hole Ray

I was worried today when this turned up
Click image to enlarge Luckily it only had this in it Click image to enlarge Now if only the springs would turn up I could get on with the job. Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html |

Hi Greg, yes it's staying the same height as it was perfect for me, but as above I'm replacing the shocks at the same time with a lot better quality ones. I did the rear shocks at the end of last year and had planned to swap the fronts this year anyway, but the terrible condition of the roads around here has forced me to do it before the better weather comes Ray

Well that was a royal pain in the proverbial! With the spring broken in a couple of places it was hard to get at all the bolts
So here's the level before to see how much it had dropped. The wife's dc is in the background with standard height suspension. Click image to enlarge It looked a bit poorly with the wheel off Click image to enlarge The new ones lookin a little better nick. Click image to enlarge And on Click image to enlarge Had a few grazed knuckles and bruises from slipping off bolts but with it all back together it sits better. Click image to enlarge Slightly high at the moment but I think it'll settle over the next couple of weeks and the ride is much much better again. Thankyou they were just a cheap pair of britpart 1" lower ones as I needed them quick and they were the only in stock ones I could find, but didn't need the rear ones as the extreme 4x4 ones on the back were fine. If they don't hold up I'll go for a set of the alive ones next year. Ray

looking good! I am toying with the idea of changing the setup I have, with me been a short arse and the new stuff looking rusty after a year of been on the car.
I am looking at changing the steering damper to better product than terrafema ( spelling) as I don't really think they are that great. My dads runs the stuff but doesn't do the mileage as I do, so things may last longer, even his looks like its seen better days, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

The steering damper is my last thing I've got to change now but I'm putting a steering box on and doing the conversion to the discovery set up at the same time. I've not read good reviews of the terrafirma dampers but I can recommend old man emu :thumb-sup Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html Last edited by mk1collector on 10th Mar 2018 11:59am. Hi, it had a full set of lowered ones from extreme 4x4 but 3 years of punishment from our terrible roads was obviously enough for the fronts I didn't know I was ordering britpart replacement ones as the add didn't say a manufacturer so we'll have to see how they hold up. That would be the reason then. While road conditions are bad everywhere Land Rover springs are very durable and it is very rare to break one, the fact that you have managed to break both at once suggests to me that there was an issue with those springs. The brand just serves to justify that theory.
I’ve no idea how good Britpart springs are, I read that they work okay, but their reputation generally is poor. Personally I would just go for genuine, they’ll last 20+ years with no bother. |

I had read that extreme 4x4 made good quality springs, if they made genuine springs lower I'd go for them but it seems I'll probably end up going for the alive offering (eibach I think) when these die. Ray
