Cringe...
I suspect mine is going to happen sooner or later, but have decided to let fate have its way. Hope it happens local! I should have had the Ashcroft part fitted when I had the clutch and slave replaced, but it was just a bad time of year to be waiting for it to ship over with no vehicle in the meantime. Mind you the mechanic never mentioned it, and I don't see the telltale rust out of the hole in the casting, but after replacing a heap of transmission parts along with the clutch I still have driveline backlash, isn't the props, could be the diffs, could be the output shaft Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Such a familiar story, still it goes on, and still JLR denies that there is a problem.
Sooner or later one will fail on a level crossing, or in the middle of a busy junction, and people will die. |

I drove this last week after one of the lads said it was making a clonking noise,
They were pulling a loaded trailer which was probably well on the weight limit! The backlash was really bad changing down the gears, especially between 3rd to 2nd, that’s where the problem was, They used it the next day, and while reversing up a steep drive it went bang. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Do you have to take the whole gearbox out Ian or can it be done on the ramp with the T box dropped out? Chris

It can be done with the gearbox in situ once the transfer box is out.

Yes you can do them in situ, but i always pull the box out and look at the clutch and replace the slave,
Seems daft not to, unless you know when it was replaced. Once the transfer box is off, there isn’t that much more work to get the box out. I ended up replacing the clutch and slave, as it was a bit rattly, there was plenty of life left in the clutch, but the springs were showing signs of wear. All back together now, along with some Ashcroft H/D drive flanges, it feels really nice and tight again, And no slop 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Where are you based?
Got a Clutchfix kit and slave cylinder and was looking at having the Ashcroft parts fitted. Last edited by DAZ110 on 12th Feb 2018 8:06pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Done worst trips.
My clutch is rattling so thought might as well fit the Ashcroft parts at the same time. Pm me the cost to fit Clutchfix kit and Ashcroft parts that I can supply. |
