Anti roll bars are a must for road biased defenders in my opinion 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I'm going to give them a go since my 90 isn't going to see any pay to play or hardcore laning, can anyone comment (from experience not reading things in magazines/internet) how they change the way a defender handles?
I like the defender handling and i'm worried it might make it more likely to understeer? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

Really you only loose a bit of articulation, but can gain a go cart standard anti roll bars will stop a good 60%. Of the body roll. An updated rear would be more noticeable on a 110 due to the rear overhang. Coupled with updated shocks makes everything tight, direct and responsive. It basically sits flats, The difference is massive. The only downside with the shocks though is it can make it a hard ride. I prefer it as the 90 is so predictable. In the snow it was a lot of fun

The most difference in my opinion is the way it transforms transitional cornering loads, when negotiating a series of left - right- left type bends.
Before - you had to wait for the suspension to 'settle' when coming out of one bend before turning into the next. This obviously means reducing your cornering speed to allow for this transition. Failure to do this causes quite severe oscillation of the suspension (read lock to lock tank slapper ) Anti roll bars (especially updated ones) reduce this massively allowing you to change direction with much more speed and confidence. This is most noticeable when going straight on at a roundabout for example. Another advantage to anti roll bars it that they reduce understeer by increasing the load on the inside tyre. All in all a very worthwhile modification which (unless going extreme) won't effect off road performance and is nothing but a benefit on road. I can't see why you wouldn't do it to be honest 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I thought they were all fitted with front anti-roll bars. The body roll is bad enough with them fitted

My 110 had an ARB on the front from the factory
Fitted an Alive rear ARB, and the difference in handling was immense |

With the springs & dampers you have fitted, I would say that ARBs would be a very worthwhile addition,..they will definitely improve handling in all sorts of conditions that you will encounter on the ROAD. As many have said, they will restrict articulation off road, but if you're road orientated, then you should fit 'em. Pickles. |

True for 90s I think, but not 110s. My DC had Boosts from the factory but only gained ARBs a few years ago when I retrofitted them. I think if you had 1 tonne or HD suspension you didn't get ARBs, but I stand to be corrected. They make a massive difference to the road manners especially if (like me) you have a Patriot rack which you load to capacity. The difference off road is only noticeable under extreme conditions and is a small price to pay. |
