Egr removed, turbo/intercooler hoses replaced with silicon was running great apart from loss of mpg and black smoke. The loss of mpg coupled with being told an injector sounded like it was dragging and black smoke suggesting over fuelling is why we decided to replace the injectors thinking one may be leaking. I replaced the maf sensor a couple of months ago and the map sensor (to rule it out) last week which brought back a little low down torque that I didn't realise was missing. I need to take out the intercooler to check for any splits or leaks. Ray

A bit nearer. The noisey fuel pump has gone so the injector seals definitely needed changing, we'll have to see on the mpg and the black smoke is better but still more than I'd like so I'm checking all pipes, intercooler, air box and everything else this weekend to try and find any air leaks or anything really Ray

Are you going to takes the pipes of one by one to check them or are you going to check them in situ Ray ? 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I've taken everything off one by one up to the turbo so far, and the pipes from the turbo onwards are silicon so should be ok but I'll take the intercooler out completely and check it over, so while its out i'll take the hoses off and double check they're fine. If nothing is obvious on the intercooler I'll stick the original back in and see if the smoke has gone just to be doubly sure it's not that. Ray

Good idea Ray, but do check the silicon ones, depends on make they are, but i got some on mine and when the mechanic took my water pipe off he found it coming apart from the inside not good so had to put a new original hose back on, i had not had them on long, but i had bought them well in advance and the warranty had run out 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

It's a pain when that happens. Mine haven't been on too long but as I got them through the wife's company the hose supplier should honour the warranty if anythings wrong. It's annoying as I don't mind paying to fix the problem but I just can't find it Ray
