I think I'd probably change as little as possible, or at least only change things that could be (relatively) easily returned to original. Axles are sodding heavy. Cast your mind back to when folks were bobtailing classic Range Rovers...
Are the Disco axles the same track as Series? If not it will just look 'wrong' IMO. You could convert the front axle to disks. It's an interesting project to (try to) reign in the spending as well with the lower ultimate value of an S3. |

Discos are wider track, so it would have to have arches,
Plus steering geometry is a bit of a faff. This one... Minimal spend, keep it as close to standard, just a big exhaust.... I may want to refit diesel at some point? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Slowly collecting a few parts Andy!
I had wheels shot blasted and powder coated, new tyres fitted just before Christmas, I've got most of the parts I need now, but it's on hold for a few months as I'm renovating an old cottage and it's a priority at the moment. It will probably kick off again in the spring? I've been plastering since Christmas Eve..... 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Click image to enlarge I spent a year on taffy, (also a victim of the bad old days of British Leland! However I've seen worse corrosion on a late '90's 300 tdi) I replaced the tired 2.25 petrol for a 200 tdi, I now regret that, not because of reduced value in the future (I did it 7 years ago and have no plans to sell any how's) but the 200 is a noisy rattling beast, now a sweet v8, that's a different matter altogether! That's nice too !!!
Damn it, you lot inspire me with the Series builds. So many Land Rovers to build, so little time. I'd prefer a tdi or v8 in one |

Well it's Been a while!
I've been busy renovating our new house since Christmas, so I've had no time to get cracking with the 3 until today. Finally the strip down begins I have brought practically everything I need for this now, so it should go quite smoothly? This morning I stripped the front end, I'm desperate to get the box out and check it over, bolt it to the V8 and make a start on the chassis mounts. Wheels are blasted and powder coated with new tyres, hopefully it shouldn't be too long before we get a rolling chassis, I've picked up some early Range Rover diffs along the way too. Its finally Nice to make a proper start on it! I did have a little wobble a few weeks ago about its originality, it's a very honest series 3 and completely untouched in the way of modifications, but at the end of the day it's something that I've wanted to do for a while. I will hang on to the Low mileage diesel lump just incase I ever end up deciding to restore it one day. ^ Going to be really good
What sort of price are the chassis? I'm looking forward to tinkering with mine. Is a V8 engine swap 'fairly' easy if I fancy one at one point? Would I need to change much on mine (2 1/4 petrol) Thanks |

I told Bek over an hour ago I would be in for a shower,
Then this happened...... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Scott the chassis was just shy of 2k, I brought springs, shocks, brakes and everything I need for a basic rolling chassis. I got lucky with the engine as it had just been removed from a series to make way for TDI conversion, it's an high compression SD1 v8, and runs sweet as a nut, so luckily the adapter plate was with it, flywheel has been drilled for the series clutch, spigot bush mod, Range Rover manifolds etc.... Passenger footwell will get a new one, and you have to trim 2" off the side so you can get to the rear spark plugs. Engine mounts will be replaced on chassis to mate up the V8 It's not a huge job putting one in, it's just getting all the little bits and pieces together to do the job. I'm not doing much else to it body wise, I just want it kept rough and ready and useable. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

^ Sounds good
2K does not sound too bad for the chassis. however that might me too much for me to do swapping everything over Its a thought though... |
