United Kingdom 2016 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS DCPU Fuji White
so a few forum members have got hold of me this evening to make me aware of this matter! so thanks in doing so to those who have.

- The defender 90 which Simon ( Sulisuli ) has purchased was purchased through a previous customer of mine - myself or CSK as a business had nothing to do with the sale of the vehicle just to make this clear to everyone.
The previous owner who sold the vehicle had quite a list of mods completed through CSK - most of these can be seen on the first page of this thread and most of which were actually undertaken by myself with my own hands - items such as laying the flooring, dinitrol, fitting the panoramic windows and soundproofing.

The previous owner of the vehicle ( my customer ) then contacted me via email back in January of this year to tell me he had drove through a car wash and the car wash took out the rear of the roof - at first it would have been an insurance claim however the car wash company then paid for the repairs and settled a price with the owner of the vehicle to get him to have the work completed himself by someone of his choice. By using a NTO roof which i sourced from a land rover company this brought costs down for the customer and with the savings in doing so my customer then wanted a remap and rust prevention at the same time which i was happy to do as the costs were saved as the car wash company agreed figures instead of going through insurance. ( i have emails to prove this between me and my customer )

So on with the roof - this was fitted up by myself and then taken into a local paint shop which i use for all of our builds and body repairs - they are a big reputable body shop locally so i know there standard of work is high. Work completed, i checked it over and the customer was happy.

My previous customer has then recently sold the vehicle to Simon (sulisuli) who after collecting the vehicle and taking it home noticed the roof paint had failed - simon then contacted myself via telephone and emailed me informing he took it into a main dealer to be covered under warranty - my reply on email which i have here reads that the roof was replaced due to damage so land rover would not cover a warranty claim on a roof which has been replaced.

For some reason Simon emailed me to say that roger young had replied to his claim and said - QUOTE "the roof has already been subject to a warranty claim earlier this year and therefore it isn’t covered !!!"
im a little stumped at why they would say this when there wouldn't be anything flagged with land rover as a claim it wasn't warranty claim and land rover hadn't been informed for a car wash damaging the roof ?

Upon a few email replys which i had been prompt to reply to i explained to Simon the work was undertaken whilst the previous owner was in ownership and with myself as a business undertook the work - if Alan had flagged the roof failing we would get it back in check the problem and resolve the issue - now I'm not entitled to offer this same service to someone else as the vehicle has now changed hands however i emailed Simon and explained to him i have spoken to the paint shop which we use and out of good will ill see the the roof issue resolved upon the vehicle being brought back into myself for me to take it back to the paint shop who sprayed it in the first place - the work would be undertaken by removing the old paint, priming and re painting to a factory satisfaction and standard.

Now this is the same route as what a warranty would involve ( take land rovers warranty for instance - issue flags and you have to take a day out of work to get it to them to have warranty work completed as they need the vehicle dropped off to them to resolve the warranty issue ) - if a issue rises it needs to be returned to be sorted - and in this case it was out of good will - i explained to Simon this is how i run my business and it is built on reputation - if something goes wrong which in every business it will no matter how good you are then you need to resolve the issue by fixing it. I also said in my last email to Simon if he feels he needs to go to the forum with this then its understandable but i would also like to air my views and give a little background history to the work undertaken and what has been said via emails.

From the list of other items i had fitted for Alan on the vehicle it looks to be your chuffed with the mods and how it all looks over collecting a standard vehicle from your posts on the first few pages of this topic ?

I can only apologise for the issues of the roof paint - ideally as i said i would want the vehicle back so i myself can check and get the issue rectified i am then happy with this just the same as any warranty i give on my work - if theres a issue call me, ill get it back in and sorted - i appreciate the distance between us but i too have had to take a vehicle back in my previous ownership of a car due to a fault which the seller had to resolve as the warranty was with them annoyingly i had a 3 hour drive up to yorkshire to get it resolved but after was happy with there work and how they resolved the issue by fixing there mistake.

Simon - if your ever near by or planning a trip with in the future id like to offer you a complimentary rust prevention check over and top up recoat -the rust prevention is something which i myself have completed on the vehicle when the previous owner owned it however its good to keep ontop of the treatment to prolong the life of the car so giving it a recoat in obvious and renowned areas to rust will be worthwhile.

Good evening Chris
Many thanks for your detailed reply on here. Firstly with regard to the extra mods carried out by yourself for the previous owner these have been carried out to a good standard and certainly make it a " standout" defender and I am happy with them and have stated in my previous posts on this thread the high standard to which you have carried work out in the past for other customers as well.
With regard to the roof paint we both know the quality of the work carried out is of an unacceptable standard and you have acknowledged this and yes after some prompting you did offer as a gesture of goodwill to respray it but as we both know with the distance involved, train fares and time off work twice this was never really going to be a viable option for me and also I am sure you too if having had one bad experience at a paint shop would be hesitant to return it to them even with your best assurances they would do a first class job for me.
With regard to taking it to my main dealers to have the respray done I pass their door every day on my way to work and they would have given me a courtesy car but their quote was expensive so I chose a local independent to carry out the respray who also include a 12 month warranty as standard regardless if I sell the vehicle in that time.
I then asked if you would make a contribution of £250.00 towards having it done locally but you didn't reply to my first or second email asking you to give that consideration so that's why we find ourselves having this discussion in public. This wasn't my preferred option as you will have read from my earlier posts but you didn't reply to my last two emails.
Your offer of the Dinitrol check over / recoat is appreciated but again with the distance involved I will graciously decline your generous offer.
Perhaps having saved you any costs with regard to respraying at the paint shop you use to rectify the roof and any costs involved with your offer of the Dinitrol check over you might instead consider making a donation to

This is the page set up for MS suffers and a worthy cause running in conjunction with the http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50941.html. If you make a donation I would willingly shake your hand and put this behind us both. Regards Simon. 2015 HT XS 90

Thread update work carried out in the last two week, removal of the snorkel, bit of an unsightly mess with regard to the wing but thanks to my amazing local body and paint shop for the first class work they did on the wing.
They also sprayed the backs of the wing mirrors in Corris grey

New LED headlights fitted wow very impressed with these.

Had the roof resprayed at my local body and paint shop again first class workmanship with a full 12 month warranty Thumbs Up

Fitted the patriot roof rack today and gave the Landy a good clean. Now looking forward to enjoying using it as my daily drive and racking up the miles with lots of smiles.

Big thank you to lots of people here for the private messages of support and comments on this thread with regard to the "problem" with the roof.

Hi Clayton thanks for the comments, had the roof rack for 6 years in my garage because I had it when I had my 1st XS and then I brought the soft top SVX so it wasn't used but today it's come out of retirement Laughing
Ref Chris at CSK making the donation as I suggested in my reply to his posting on this thread he hasn't contacted me personally or posted here so I can only assume he hasn't .....Chris if you read this or someone messages you because of what I have said perhaps you could let me know if you have made that donation to the worthy cause please. 2015 HT XS 90

Thanks Procta and Stacey007. The first few weeks of owning the HT have been marred for reasons already mentioned here but hopefully now I can enjoy it. Defenders are like marmite you either love them or hate them but mine always make me smile when I drive them Thumbs Up 2015 HT XS 90

Hello

Your right, some days I will be honest, its noisy, slow, feels like the handbrakes on, rattles, turning circle of a barge..... etc etc but 99% of the time its ACE.

It been a long time since I have had to sort my own gears, turn my own lights on, wipers on, change lights to make them better etc etc but its ACE

Love it, its the only car I have had since an original Mini I feel fairly happy taking my tool kit to and fitting stuff Smile

My local main dealers are brilliant with loan cars with me and some of them I have had for a month when having warranty work done on previous defenders Laughing they have included range rovers, discos, evoques but every time I can't wait to have my defender back, like you said sorting gears, turning lights and wipers on but hey I wouldn't change by daily drive for anything else Thumbs Up 2015 HT XS 90

At my cost Greeni but hey that's ok provided Chris follows my suggestion and makes a donation to the MS just giving page, ideally I would like him to pay £250.00 as that's half the respray cost and then I'd shake his hand so to speak but let's see if he does........ 2015 HT XS 90

I know it's not ideal, but you know it's done right. If you had taken it back, you'd have probably been worried it may happen again.
Sometimes peace of mind is priceless.

Simon, glad you got it sorted in the end and what a great truck you have got there, look forward to meeting up sometime around here.

It is always difficult when you inherit problems from a previous owner and I think Killer gave a very considered response to your concerns, he has always seemed a first class chap and it would be difficult to just hand a stranger a lump of money without the opportunity of inspecting the problem. Presumably his body shop would have had to make good at no cost to him so I see why he would not be keen on paying out even though there is considerable cost to you.

As for the donation, it literally brings tears to my eyes every time I read an update from MrsGreeni, such dignity in the face of adversity is truly inspiring.

However charity donations are a private matter and to link them to demands or out someone publicly is just not the done thing.

Just my thoughts, hope you still want to meet up some time.
