On my old 300 Defender I uprated my windscreen washers by fitting two sets of jets using the LHD wiper holes. Not had dash off my TDCI yet (under warranty till next month) any reason I cant do the same again?

I've thought about this as your right the one jet each side it poor...
Is it a dashboard out job to get to them? |

Apparently on a Puma it is a dash-out job to replace the whole jet and body, but if you are very lucky apparently you can split the fixed part from the outer "jet" part with the application of hot water and a thin blade as it is a 2 piece assembly.
Mine has gradually dwindled to nothing so in a fit of desperation I tried to separate them and succeeded in undoing the securing nut so that the whole assembly is now loose. Bizarrely though, it now has a strong jet and I have been told that the pipe behind is twisted from the factory which restricts flow. I was advised that it was a dash-out job to tighten the nut up again and ended up jamming some plastic washers in between it and the bulkhead to secure it. |

Would it not be possible to change the pump?
Where is it and who makes it? TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Put two jets on, in the LHD wiper holes as suggested, that way there is plenty of fluid going where you need it. And you actually use less because you don't have to hold down the stalk in the vain hope that the air turbulence will blow the water where you need it.
Alternatively I read somewhere about someone putting heated Discovery 3 jets in the bonnet. You can upgrade the pump for one from a headlamp washer but I can't see why you'd need to once two jets are on - power or volume of fluid is not the problem, placement of the fluid is. |

As an additional/alternative measure some guys over here have replaced a non-return valve with a different one (Pierburg 7.20235.01 or similar, about 3 - 8). It seems the smaller diameter results is a higher water pressure. It's on my to do list.

This is one of those little things which have constantly bugged me about the Defender. Horrid set-up which hasn't changed since the year dot.
Wipers start far too early when you want to clean the screen, ideal would be for some water to be on it before the wipers start going. I've worn out heaps of them as here in Oz we suffer more than most places. Dust is abrasive and kills machinery let alone wiper blades. Soon be all in the past though as I've bought a new poverty pack Disco and things seem just a tad more modern with leather seats etc. and aircon that actually works.... ![]() One more off road trip along the south coast of WA and then the beast is gone. Cook is not impressed but then she doesn't drive the thing. ![]() So in Jan it'll be farewell fellow sufferers and I'll start practising my regal wave ........ AlanH. |

Alen,
I removed 1 wire from the rear of the wiper relay plug to remove the swipe function from the washer switch. Cheaper than buying a replacement vehicle ![]() Kyle. |

Also for info... the "99" relay mod allows a short squirt of water without activating the wipers. With a bit of practice you can get the hang of doing as many squirts as you like first before letting the wipers activate

Please remind me what the "99" relay mod is again? Is the one where you use a VW relay or something? I'm not too happy with the swipe first, washer fluid later bit as well but ain't no way I'm getting rid of the Defender...

^^ yes that's it. I think the original VW relay has 99 marked on it.
One option is to buy new if you want some warranty etc http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/defender-programmable-wiper-relay.html it is more expensive than a scrapyard etc but is still probably the best "bang per buck" mod there is ![]() |

All you need to know is in below thread. Also for the rear wiper intermittent function. Interesting to read through these old threads, shows how many once enthusiastic members apparently have moved on. ![]() http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Earlier this year I did the mod. And no, you don't have to take the whole dashboard out but it's fiddly. But that's the easy part
![]() https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/u...G_1367.jpg Cheers Jack ps did the 99 mod as well |

Here's mine with the double jets:
![]() Click image to enlarge And a video of operation: Jets on the bonnet would be better still, as some of the water hits the wiper arm in certain positions with this setup, however I have found that in practice this is not a problem as the water simple bounces off the arm and hits the screen anyway. |
