Did the dealer do everything in the correct order?
Injection pump learn/re calibration Injector Numbers Injector Piolt learn (this must be done last) I would not change the timing from standard - and in my opinion, although I'm sure tuners will try and dissagree - you should not (and in fact there should be no need) to have the timing adjusted. Engine timing is critical, and Land Rover spend millions developing and mapping the optimum timing (and there is more than just one map that most people adjust). But apparently people tweaking in a workshop can make it better??? The fuel system, set up and control is critical to the running of a Puma Engine. And any tweaks to Pulse width or timing on a Torque based strategy is wrong. More often than not, issues like this can actually be down to injectors themselves, with a fault that only shows up under a certain load/condition. thanks Porny
Actually the dealer said they hadn't done a relearn before so the info in your post makes me suspicious. I see you're in Sutton Coldfield and looking at your tuning credentials is this something you would be interested in checking out ? I don't want 500nm though ! I just want to get a diagnosis from someone who knows this kind of stuff inside out which you obviously do . I can always phone IRB and book it in nearer to July if thats OK. |

Rossy,
as mentioned on other posts I couldn't recommend enough that you pull the MAP (and MAF) sensor(s) out and give em a clean with carb cleaner. for the sake of 2 mins its a no brainer in my opinion. |

If you're in a fix go here, they are an excellent independant with a great reputation! They will sort you out! I still use them on occasion and they're two hours from me! Ask to speak to Steve and explain your problem. They have sorted another couple of people out in a 'fix' last minute if you read the feedback..... http://www.james-french.co.uk/ Dealer feedback.... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2222.h...mes+french If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I also had exactly same heavy pinking issues . Whilst getting the turbo hose replaced after the recall I told them to upload the 2013 software . Bingo - no more pinking issues . Same silly rev probs and gear changes but much smoother . Can't wait to get to BAS though .

Caterham - thanks I'll do that.
K9f - I'll give those guys a look in they sound great (and they look a bit posh !) Keith - yours is a 2.2 I think. I asked the dealer the other day and they said there were no software upgrades for a MY11 2.4 on the system so I'm guessing the 2.2 has already needed one ! |

Hello There Rossy,
I am currently facing the same problem with my defender. Did you manage to fix this issue? If yes, can you please share how you went about fixing it. |
