DavidT, another sensible post mate, the second time I have said that of your posts.
There's so much (inappropriate in my view) "Anti U.S." sentiment amongst some of our community, that maybe now, as you say, some rational people will REALLY think what the U.S. means to them......Tell you what, I'm glad they're on our side,....think where WW11 would've ended without the U.S.?...problem is many are now too old to remember, and think that situation will never arise again. Well good luck with that. Pickles. |

Trouble is, in my view the obsession with money is the root of all evil across the world. Religion isn't going to prevent or combat that. However, societies can and should change. The whole thing with Russia has been ridiculous to my mind, there was no need for hostility at all from anyone. But, that's just my personal views. WW2? The USA NEVER declared war on Germany in WW2. After the Pearl Harbour attack by the Japanese, Germany and Italy declared war on the USA. Now what would have happened if Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbour? Or if Germany and Italy had not declared war on the USA? As for the Lend Lease programme the UK did not stop paying for WW2 until 2006. Now the USA president elect is making nosies about NATO and contributions. Guess what the UK is one of the few countries which meet NATO 2% of GDP on defence spending. That is NOT anti USA but statement of some facts. Brendan |

I'm aware of that mate.
My Mum & Dad lived through the Blitz, & my parents were no friends of Joe Kennedy,...who wanted to side with Germany!! However, you would no doubt be aware, that before the U.S."officially" entered the war, it was sending MASSIVE supplies via ultra dangerous Atlantic convoys,to "üs" in no small part due to Churchill's VERY GOOD relationship with the U.S.President....it is well known that the Germans would've beaten Russia without the supplies coming in from the U.S. And in our part of the World, I wouldn't be talking to the Forum now, were it not for the hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops, who died fror freedom in this part of the world. Well. Having now listened to the victory speech and the language used in it I think that Trump has definitely changed his tone which I suspect was inevitable after a campaign run on outrageous sound bites designed to put him in the front of the electorates minds. As a believer in conservatism I hope that the new more moderate stance continues. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Trump connected with the voting public and his tactics were designed to do so. The McDonalds of politics, if you like. Fast-food is criticised but consumed.
Now he is up there, where the air is different. Lets see what he does with all that power. Its all been said here, with Putin, Erdogan and the elections coming up, here in Germany, these are interesting times. And I almost forgot that in we will all be driving to work in autonomous electric vehicles, within the next decade. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

Not strictly true. Looking at the exit polls (ignoring the accuracy issues for now), even thou the biggest group voting trump was "White without a college degree", if we look at the "White college graduates" group, more actually voted for Trump than Clinton, which I guess is argueably more worrying... (althou I guess it is possible to have a college educated redneck?) On a more funny side, c. 20% of all the people that answered no to "Do you think Donald J. Trump has the temperament to serve effectively as president?" and "Is Donald J. Trump honest and trustworthy?" voted Trump.... http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/11....html?_r=0 |
