Tbh I'd take it to Hillendale, they're far more accepting of mods. Brock aren't and they'll make notes on their system. If you then have a warranty issue, or anything suspension, drive train or diff related they won't honour it

Glyn, i went for the full kit, HOWEVER, gwyn recommended no more than a 1 inch lift with a puma, due to propshaft problems (vibrations), However, the bonus is the puma has heavy duty props as standard aparently, so you can knock 300 quid off the price cause you dont have to buy uprated ones. if you want more lift you must get double cardon props, about 350 each i think . I went for Bearmach springs and pro comp shocks to keep the price down a bit, but if you havnt got a price limit, go for EMU shocks, supposed to be awesome.
Erm as far as performance, off road its sooo much better. I have 265 insa turbo special tracks fitted with 30mm spacers aswell, and i havnt been stuck yet, done some daft stuff too road handling without anti roll bars isnt the best, lots of body roll, buts i put up with it. according to gwyn this would be vastly improved with EMU shocks, which i might upgrade to in the future. I went for the full kit, i would say the rear dislocation cones are particularly good. easy enough kit to fit aswell. Note with a puma you will also need the Fuel filter relocation bracket, to allow fitting of the challenge rear shock mounts. If you want any off road pics im going this weekend and will take some for you? James |

Haha, I wish I had enough money to think like that! My plan was to go for the full kit either standard height or +1" but no more. Might have to look further into the prop shaft being HD.... but then again like the idea of double cardon ones . As for Anti roll bar, I was looking at making it so it can be quick release (using pins instead of bolts) so that I can have it attached when doing long on-road driving and then have it dissconected the rest of the time.... Somthing to think about. I have the blue springs and Pro-comp shocks on my Discovery and even though they are the cheap option they were an upgrade as it didn't have Anti roll bars as standard.
That would be awesome if you coul I just need to start saving more money now..... I think maybe suspension has now gone to the top of the list of things to do. Gyn |

well if you look at standard props from a TD5, and then a puma, the joints are bigger on a puma, had a look today on a Td5 in tescos! LOL
i would spend the money on emu shocks and springs instead of double cardon props... ( would be 700quid in props alone ) and you dont need them with an inch lift.... up to you, but my mate has emu's on his, with no roll bars, and it handles better than mine did with standard suspension with roll bars... your choice! |

Looks like I should get away with it then. I guess it will be a load of trial and error. It isn't like I drive around fast anyhow and once I get to Cyprus 80% of my driving will be off-road anyhow. I am looking at changing all the bushes for superflex at the same time which should also help too Glyn |

I'm just on the way back from gwyns funnily enough. He was damning about polybush. As James said, he says always use oem bushes.
Re shocks and cardon props etc, if you have a one inch lift you shouldn't need a double cardon prop unless there us vibration. But you may well need cranked trailing arms as any lift on the rears will stress the bushes prett significantly. Also if you have long travel shocks you'll have to have dislocation cones as the increase in travel will pop the spring out |

Friend of mine told a story about a chap who had a showroom fresh new Defender and on his first trip to the Atlas and Sahara for 10 days wrecked his OEM bushes: was not impressed. Suppose it depends on what you design your Defender to do as to whether you want compliance or stiffness (Oer missus). From my perspective I went with a mixed set of Polybushes (hard, intermediate) and retained the anti-roll bar, added OME springs (medium but with a pair of heavy duty for when I am really running a lot of weight) and Koni Raid shocks. But then axle articulation is not so important to me as it is to deal with a full load, roof tent etc and to try to keep it from rolling too much on corners
The other thing I considered at the time was that as most of the suspension was coming off for one reason or another then it was wise to fit a set of polybushes and 'fit n forget' Choices, choices, choices. |
