Screeching noise and Check engine light
Hi all,

I knew I was being too smug, having done 4000 miles in two months on the 110 (making 8500 in total), with nary a problem (apart from the usual small niggles like door adjustment and minor leak!)

Was on my way to see my brother yesterday, when, after a 2.5 hour motorway journey and coming into London, my check engine light illuminated.

I also noticed that this seemed to coincide with an intermittent (And not too loud) screech when acceerating from rest (sounds a bit like a fanbelt slipping but only lasts 2-3 seconds and goes).

Anyway, it was late at night, and being miles from home, I was in a rush, so plugged in my BAS box, and instead of reading fault codes, just cleared them (not very helpful, I know, but my logic was that if the fault was major the light would illuminate again!)

Since then, the light hasn't come on again but I have had a couple of brief reoccurrences of the screech. Any ideas, and would it trip the light, or something else? If it does it again, I'll call LR assist, I think, just to be safe!

Cheers, Mike.

I may even put the standard LR map back on again, and drive it for a while, just to see.

Then if the light does go on again, at least I feel happier with the LR assist bloke plugging any diagnostic equipment in.

IN mean time, will have a good look under the car and under the bonnet tomorrow!

out of interest does a remap [BAS or anyother] affect the warranty and LR Assist. yiu can probably guess why i am asking Whistle BM52

Should imagine, yes - although obviously not if the suspension falls apart!

In theory, the remap should be fully reversible.

Screech on acceleration could be the early indications of a leak in the turbo to intercooler hose, probably caused by the hose rubbing on the steering column adjacent to the steering box. I believe that this can cause MIL activation if it results in the turbo overspeeding.

Your noise - like a fanbelt slipping - sounds exactly like the noise I had when I suffered the above hose failure. Pressing the load pedal would make it happen; you could almost play tunes with it.

Thanks - Think I will need to get the dealer to look at it. Interestingly, I have noticed a strange sound (almost like the ABS kicking in) when pulling away with steering lock applied). Maybe related?

Did a read of the diagnostic codes this morning, and I had the following:

U0155 - Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Control Module

U0300 - Internal Control Module Software Incompatibility

P1643 - CAN Link Engine Control Module/Transmission Control Module Circuit/Network

Hi all,

Well, the 110 is in with the dealer today, but they seem perplexed.

The noise seems to particularly occur (and be repeatable) after having reversed on full lock. When I drive away on gentle throttle, the high pitched whine stays for 30 secs to a minute.

No check engine light, but quite a lot of fault codes (and I've been back to the standard engine map for a week or so now - cleared all fault codes too).

Any ideas?? Hoping it's not going to be one of those ' Censored -to-find' type faults!

Remove the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and inspect its underside carefully. If it has been carelessly fitted it will have been rubbing on the pinch bolt on the steering column where the column enters the steering box and will have a flappy type hole in it. Under power it will squeal like a fan belt, full lock will disturb it and make it worse. You will not be able see the hole with the pipe in situ. Access is improved if you remove the air filter housing, but it isn't particularly easy to remove.

Alternatively it may be something quite different, but this is easy to check and simple to fix. The hose is about £50 from a main dealer.

Hi.Check you disc brake mud shield.It might rubbing against the disc or stone wedged in it.Happened to me,and it was a brain teaser to find. Puma 110 SW

I have been having a few problems also over the last month and those codes have been on mine too

As a foot note I checked my faults the night before I took it in to the dealers but i did not clear them. When I arrived back at home having collected it two days later the faults were still there but the dealers said there were no fault Shocked . I fully accept that the dealers can't see all the faults displaid by the BAS box but I am very unsure whats going on. I am just going to check it again to see if it has thrown any more up since the last time I checked.

This is what I have logged so far

Befroe mine went into dealer yesterday, it was showing:

Dealer says I need a new ECU!! Shocked

Apparently the screech is unconnected, and (they say) caused by a faulty clutch (6 month old vehicle!). We shall see - I'm not 100%...
