Sometimes the MIL light resets after 3 driving cycles. If not you will need to have the fault code recovered from the ecu to tell you what caused the engine light to come on. Do you know anyone with a OBDII fault code reader? As your landy is out of warranty maybe a scangaugeII, nanocom evolution, blackbox FCR or hawkeye would be a good purchase as they all read and clear faults stored in the ecu. Dgardel has on here a link to download the faultcodes
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic3432.h...ault+codes I have the scangaugeII and santa is bringing me the nanocom unit. The scangauge is mounted in the car permanently where as the nanocom unit is for more specialised use. http://www.scangauge2.co.uk/ http://web.nanocom.it/default_i.cfm Click image to enlarge |

It would seem Santa brought me a present today and turned out the EML as Lorryman100 suggested potentially saving me £300. Should I still get the LR dealer to check it out or should I just put it down to the very cold weather.

the dealer will charge you for plugging in the diagnostic tool to read the code. The cost depend's on the dealers hourly rate. I would recommend as your out of warranty the scangauge 2 as you can read and reset fault's potentially paying for itself the first time it is used to check and reset the fault!

Fully agree with Lorryman100. Excellent piece of kit. Has many other uses as well. Calculating MPG, once set up, Outside Air Temp, when on the move, Battery Voltage, Water Temp and many others. Worth every penny, and as Lorryman100 says, just 1 trip to the dealers to run a diagnostic pays for itself.

EGR problem that sounds like. Have you fitted a blanking plate? If not i would say the valve is stuck. Pete. |

Well now you can reset it and know what it is then its not a problem!
Just keep a eye on it but i would say its the EGR blank that caused it. Pete. |

Fekete, took my 12mm blank out today after a few thousand miles of use and replaced with original gasket as I have the BAS EGR Shut map update, suffice to say there was no sign of the hole being sooted up, could it be the sensor itself or more likely the EGR playing up, mine always seems to run smoother after a proper long run of a few hundred miles?
