Easy job to do? I assume you bought repair channels and then welded them in?

Thanks for that part number, as so many I will be missing some of these too... But, those little simple small foam blocks from various resellers cost from 7 to 9£ each. Fitting the new type seals to a Td5 is easy, I've fitted them to mine and they give a much better seal. Remove the door card, drill out the rivets, enlarge the rivet holes my 1mm, drill a couple of extra holes for the side bits, Hoover the rivets etc from inside the door, clip new ones into place.

Yeah not a bad job to replaced the bottom sections. I got one per door and then painted each one up before hand.
Between the frame and door skin, I used roofing sealant to create a gasket. When all done and painted I used cavity wax in the box section. Given I need 4 of those foam pads for the front doors, I might as well just replace the newly fitted door seals with Puma ones and do away with the need for £18 of pads per door! And this time, I will try not to put a snapped drill bit into my finger, under the skin and out the other side! 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

^^ I think those little Td5 foam blocks are probably still the same ones as installed on early Puma bottom door seals, including on my model year 2009.
If someone knows better and maybe have a different part number for these foam blocks on a pre-2012 Puma (2012 is the model year that the new type door seals were introduced), I would be interested to hear that. Looking at the link to the blog posted earlier, looks like the door changed shape. They went from almost a 90 degree joint for the bottom frame and side frame to a more curved frame (at least on the front doors) 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yes it looks like it went from a welded together frame to a pressed frame. Should be less prone to rust. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Thanks for the great tip. The link worked even better than expected. I ordered 16 of these blocks, need 3 now to replace those that have disappeared over the years, and the rest goes into storage. They may be for a Td5, but they are identical to the little blocks used for the earlier Puma doorstrips which were used until model year 2011. They are the original Land Rover items as in the picture posted by dorsetsmith, and the price was 0.71£ a piece net of VAT. The best thing was that Beadles Land Rover Sidcup, Kent offered free DHL shipping to Switzerland, so I paid a total of £11.36 for these 16 little bags/blocks delivered to our house. No Swiss import VAT either as well below the threshold for that. Kudos to Beadles. I should have enough of them now for the coming 20 years or so, ...I hope. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Pleased you found the link I posted useful. I have used Beadles a few times for parts and each time the order has been dispatched very quickly. |
