Steering guards, lifted and castor correction
Day 3 of fitting the Gywn Lewis kit and the end is in sight.

However, run into a spot of bother with the "First Four" steering guard and the front steering arms.

The car is lifted by two inches, with castor corrected arms which has rotated the whole axle round a few degrees. This in turn has moved the front steering arm a little bit further forward, so that when in the closest position (steering dead centred) the arm is about 1mm from the guard. This is well outside my tolerances, is this a common problem?

I can rectify the issue with an angle grinder and slice off an inch off the bottom of the guard, but that seems a pity as its a nice powder coated aluminium one.

A second and more important problem is the covers for the front shock mounts. They will no longer fit as the top of the shocks sits about two inched inside the engine bay. What do people do about this? Just let the dirt from the arch splash up into the engine bay, or does any make extended covers?
I would have had a go at making some myself except the inside aluminium skin of the arch has quite a unique profile.

Apologies for no pictures of these problems, I do not have a pc handy to upload them on.

OK thanks for the feedback James, out with the angle grinder in the morning.

For a matter of interest, did your modified turret covers start off as the original ones modified? I was thinking about cutting a hole in them for the turrets tops to go through.

I too had to 'modify' my SVX steering guard when I replaced my bumper with a HD one with recovery eyes as the steering guard would no longer fit. Out with the angle grinder after carefully masking up the cut-line. Trip to the powder coaters to get it redone afterwards and you would never know.

Thumbs Up

Excuse the poor quality picture.
