More odd jobs. Brake pedal boxes and bulkhead to chassis brackets de-rusted and unseized in deox-c:

And now with some electrox primer and epoxy mastic:

Whipped off the sump to clean out 54 years' accumulated sludge and fit a new gasket. Gave it a lick of paint along with the battery / oil bath tray:

Primed and painted the fuel tank:

And pulled the rear section of the Autosparks wiring harness through the chassis:

Also starting to think about what it's going to look like with the bodywork back on and ran my machine polisher over the bulkhead vent flaps. There is still some thin deep bronze green paint under the oxidization:

Tackled a job that I've been putting off today, but needs to be done before the nearside bulkhead to chassis bracket goes back on and gets in the way; drilled out the old exhaust studs, re-tapped and put some new ones in:

And trial fitted the exhaust system:

Got to leave those wheels/ hubs!! Rest looks fantastic but won't be seen/ you know it's done... Leave em patinated!!..

I cleaned the mud off one of the wheels and wiped it over with some Corrosion Block (light oil):

Have to say that there is a bit too much rusty steel and not enough paint on it to play the patina card...Really don't know what to do with them now and I didn't want to paint anything else.

As (half) expected, it is taking longer and costing more than I first imagined. But I did make a concious decision to do it properly, at least as far as my own abilities allow as I don't intend doing any of this work again soon and it's a very enjoyable project.

On the positive side, it would be nice to think that the end result will be worth at least what it has cost me to buy and recommission. It should have some value, being a 2-owner, completely original / matching numbers early S2 with 50k miles.

Yes, I'm really pleased with how they came out. Have binned all paint brushes.

S1 and early S2s have the same tapered nuts on both ends.
