Yet more degreasing, de-rusting and painting in preparation for re-assembling the front axle:

What a great post. How did I miss it? I both admire and envy in equal measures. Time to start planning my retirement. Thank you for posting miles. Great work.

Thank-you gents for the kind words of encouragement! I got a new UJ fitted to the offside driveshaft yesterday:
Click image to enlarge The stub axles and backplates back on and painted: Click image to enlarge New wheel cylinders, brake shoes and adjusters fitted and the hubs, drive flange and hub nuts back on: Click image to enlarge And the front axle is now officially finished! Great progress Miles and starting to take shape really nicely sir...
I doubt I will ever be in a position to take on a re-build like this, never mind do such a super job of work on it, so it is brilliant to do it vicariously through threads such as yours, thank you for sharing your project... Another mini milestone - being able to push the rolling chassis out into the sun again. Starting to like the look of those rusty wheels and hubs, but it could just be the thought of more painting!

Starting to come back together now after painting the engine block and some of the ancillaries:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It's almost exactly six months to the day that I bought YSL and although I'm clearly not going to meet my original, somewhat optimistic deadline of the historic vehicle rally here in Felixstowe over the May bank holiday weekend, I'm still hopeful of getting it finished before the summer is over. Lots of odd jobs going on at the moment. I've fitted the Automec brake pipe set and flexible hoses, setup the steering geometry (toe in) and degreased and de-rusted the brake, clutch and throttle pedal assemblies along with the bulkhead to chassis brackets and steering arms ready for another batch of painting.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Also dismantled the radiator panel and will drop it off at the fabricator's tomorrow. When that's done I'll get it blasted along with the wheels and they can all be painted.
