Oil. Lots of it. All over your driveway! If I can find somewhere to store it, an SI or SII ragtop will be joining my family in time for next summer. |

Looks just like the artificially aged ragtop used on a film production I worked on 30+ years ago Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

A very fair price The trick now is not to go nuts when recommissioning it. First job is to remove the bodywork and find someone local to weld in new footwells and tidy up some of the the more agricultural repairs to the chassis. |

As an owner of two IIAs (and two Series IIIs) as well as the 110 I can heartily recommend them. The only thing to keep in mind is that they are from an era when you did actually have to know how to drive, they will not mollycoddle you and will take some getting used to, but nothing on wheels puts a grin on my face like bowling along in my 109".
The later models are generally a bit more user friendly and will have things like the long handbrake, better dash layout and improvements in areas like gearbox etc. All IIAs were built like tanks as well, much better than even modern standards for Defenders I'm sorry to say. I reached a bit of a mini-milestone over the weekend in completing the strip down of the rolling chassis and removal of the bulkhead, ready for welding and re-painting:
