is there play in the splines? if there is then you will need to remove the play by hopefully just fitting a new drive flange. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

If your getting a clunk when taking up drive your ment to apply a certain loctite, I can't remember which type but I've got some at my workshop which I can check tomorrow, there was also a Land Rover bullitin about it.

Is your torque wrench still within calibration. If so I would go along with above posts and fit a new bolt too. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

Search for some Nordlock washers.
They are very effective and I have used them on numerous high vibration applications over the years. |

I've just checked and the loctite 648 you apply it to the splines on the pinion and it stop any movement between the splines on the pinion.

For peace of mind, you could always try wire-locking the nuts.
Maybe a bit extreme, but it works for aircraft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 Defender 90 Toyota Aygo & Honda FR-V |

I applied it only to the bolt threads last time.
I will try it tomorrow. Thanks so much David |

It's probably worth changing the fixings too if they're repeatedly coming loose. |

Hate to be picky but lock wire won't stop them coming loose, it is only to prevent them coming all the way out and becoming FOD.
Nordlock washers once torqued are tested to retain torque even under extreme vibration conditions. i have used them for years in various locations and they do not come loose once torqued correctly. http://www.nord-lock.com/nord-lock/wedge-locking/ |

wire-locking done correctly will stop the things from coming un-done, I've done it many many times as part of my aeronautical engineering, pretty much everything is wirelocked that is critical if came un-done
