United Kingdom 1998 Defender 110 300 Tdi SW Bronze Green
Over the last few days I've been a bit busy with things on our very very new, very very shiny 110, Gracie Very Happy

Rear seats removed to allow loading of our tandem. Blimey those seats are heavy...

Reversing sensors fitted after a false start - managed to buy ones that constantly went off when fitted to to a metal bumper. Finally went for some Parksafe ones that work perfectly on a Defender and even include switches to tell it that you have a tow bar and spare wheel.

J W Speaker EVO 2 LED headlights fitted. Very, very nice improvement over the 1st generation ones.

Nakatatanga gas strut fitted to the rear door - helps a lot when loading the tandem which already requires three hands without having the door attempting to shut during the operation.

Cleaned and sealed the paintwork using Autoglym stuff. Dead easy on a new vehicle and no blood loss at all.

Spent a strangely enjoyable couple of hours applying massive quantities of Dynax UC to everything vaguely looking like a steel component. Chassis, doors, nuts, bolts, brackets, bumpers, towbar.

Ordered Exmoor Trim carpeting throughout, The 2.2 TDCi is already quieter than our 246,000 miles TD5 that was fully soundproofed. Our 2.2 just has a bit of fairly cheap looking vinyl matting in the front so I'm quite impressed already.

Whilst I was spending a happy hour or two lying underneath I noted a few improvements in terms of noise and vibration handling. For example the springs, both front and rear, and nylon isolators at the top. Also extra sound deadening panels under the floor panels and seat boxes. Certainly when going over a local 'spring tester' road there are absolutely no, and I mean NO, clattering or banging noises at all. Not even the rear brake pads.

So, hopefully, Gracie (she's Corris Grey with Santorini Black and Dual Finish wheels) will be as reliable and as long lasting as our old TD5. Time will tell, but the relationship is off to a good start Thumbs Up Dave

nosnibod, We have something in common.
I see your 110 goes by the name of "Gracie", .....so does our 90!!....We've owned her for about 15 months or so, she really is a part of our family now!

Very minor paint touch ups, rear cappings - about it really.
Some ACF 50 exterior application to go but that's about it for the exterior.

CB Aerial...
Following guidance from Jim @ 4x4cb.com (enormously helpful chap!... Bow down ) I set about re-seating the CB aerial on Mamba for the CB, which came installed by previous owner but has never worked and Jim reckons is down to bad earthing on the aerial... Shocked

Cleaned up contact points and eventually started to put it back together when main aerial lead snapped off the connector... Big Cry

Now waiting for a soldering iron, courtesy of Mal (aka K9F) so I can finish what I started... Whistle

Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
As a precaution have removed the small sized CH country emblem from the SVX today, as well as from the Mrs. Beetle, and replaced them by the larger official version. Why?

This past week a french gentleman who lives across the border so drives a car registered in France and who had fixed above the number 74 which in the new french license plates indicates the department Haute-Savoie which neighbours the Geneva area, a small sticker with the "Savoie Cross", the emblem of the Haute Savoie department. Driving to work in Geneva, he got stopped in a Swiss village close to ours by a Geneva police car who fined him on the spot CHF 160 (about £111) because "his license plate was not conform with the law in the country of issue of those license plates".
The link to the article with picture is below, you will see the cross affixed at the top right hand side of the license plate in the picture. That is a very serious crime of course, and it keeps the Geneva police too occupied to even make an attempt to catch thieves who steal things like my SVX wheels, etc...... Rolling Eyes

So I already know what will happen next... The french coppers will quickly start looking for Swiss cars which do not have an official CH sticker, or which only have the small CH sticker like we do (those are actually meant for motorcycles), and fine them on the spot the permitted €90,- payable in cash. As we live close to the border we often drive into France of course, so I thought let's take some preemptive action and spend all of 2CHF to buy two of these official CH stickers.
They don't even look bad I think. Laughing

By the way, no, UK license plates do not need to have such a white country sticker to enter Switzerland. Since the EU harmonized their license plates so that they all include the country code, no need for those stickers anymore. But Switzerland, not being EU, has not incorporated the CH in their license plates, so we still need the official CH sticker to drive in all EU countries.

But gents, please make sure that when you drive to law and order Switzerland your license plate must be conform with the law in the country of issue of said license plate. Whistle Thumbs Up Laughing

Fitted the Gwyn Lewis front mud shield and mud flaps today, even fitted the MUD UK dirt D-Fenders, rear/rear and rear/front. Even managed to wire in an auxiliary 12v with screw connectors to run the tyre inflator.
If anyone is about to fit the Gwyn Lewis front mud flaps and the mud shield, do what it says on the info and cut the plastic shield. I didn't and it doesn't look great, looks unfinished. Obviously if keeping the LR originals it won't matter. I cut the second one prior to install, then Dremelled the previously fitted one.
Ran out of time so the rear mud shields will have to wait until next week. _______________________________

Simply unbelievable. I have the same sticker (cheaper than having two new 'placques' made with the Haute Savoie flag. Loads of people have them. Have the Geneva Police got nothing better to do? They (Geneva Canton) are targeting more and more foreigners, their companies, employees, cars etc etc. My aunt lives in Cologny, I better be careful. Thanks Eric... Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....
