^^ quote They (Geneva Canton) are targeting more and more foreigners, their companies, employees, cars etc etc. unquote
Monsieur Le Grenadier, I don't think that is correct at all. Foreign companies get treated here extremely well, hence the reason why so many are present. Same with foreigners I would say, I never heard complaints about Police targeting foreign vehicles specifically. The Swiss are too pragmatic for that, if you deserve a ticket, you will get it irrespective if you have a Swiss plate or any other one. What happened here in Cologny looks pretty much exceptional. I see every day 100s and 100s of French Haute Savoie commuter cars on the roads here, and many of them would be up for a ticket, ......solely already because they are not enough car washed for the Geneva norms. Now, as to what you say about targeting more and more foreigners,...... I can tell you some real lifetime experiences with your French Gendarmerie that happened to me, once in the mountains in Cordon above Sallanches, so close to you, and once on the way to La Clusaz. Speaking of targeting foreigners... Eric You never actually own a Defender. Salut Eric,
Salut Eric, I wholly agree, the Gendarmes are very good at targeting foreign cars. I know....!! On The business side of things it is less about the big banks and International's based in Geneva, which I agree the Swiss welcome, but more about the French based/reg'd/taxed companies that can work in Geneva under Schengen. A friend owns one of the largest Transfer companies between Chamonix and GVA and in the last two years the Canton (under pressure from the Taxi drivers) have brought in rule after rule, tax after tax, to limit their ability to work in GVA. This is for all the French transfer companies (90% owned by Brits). They have basically spent thousands in the Swiss courts to force the Canton to back down. Each time they win, the Canton and Police (NOT GVA) invent a new law/regulation and only for the French companies. Not for the Swiss registered firms, nor the Taxis, and all against EU Trade regs. It got so bad, that Easyjet and BA (now GVA's largest foreign carriers) threatened to pull out and invest in a new airport in Annecy and helped fund the court cases. GVA's feared loss of revenue is all that made the Canton reverse their most recent decisions. But only after my mate had spent thousands in court and on new licensing, driver re-training to match 'limousine' driver regulations in Geneva, even though they drive Renault Trafics and are fully Euro licenced (therefore able to work in Geneva under Shengen), re-routing to get to the French side (due to enforced limited access rights to GVA via Bardonnex), so more fuel etc etc. Sadly the expectation is they will invent new rules this year... This is obviously just one side of the story, but they are actually targeting the whole French-based transfer industry, under pressure from the GVA taxis. However, I have heard of other similar policies against other French based industries. Further, that the Canton is looking to introduce regs/taxes for those working in Geneva but living in France, forcing Swiss residency or banning/taxing French home ownership. Not sure if it will happen, but this is from my (Swiss) uncle who works in Geneva Real Estate and says it is to halt the influx of 'frontaliers' or more to the point, the exodus of Geneva works who can no longer afford to live in the Canton. Never easy these border trade disputes. Much easier to be an Island!! Anyway, Defenders (as we know) can go anywhere, cross any border or continent and do not judge by nationality!! Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

That carpark looks less busy than when I went back in February, I had to park amongst the LRE motors!

attempted to fix my squeaky clutch but in doing so removed the spring on the pedal. WHAT A MISTAKE!
hardest thing in the world to get back on! don't ever remove it if at all possible. It wasn't even the culprit for me! Some engine oil down into the mechanism from above in the engine bay (remove the little cover) and all sorted. A few scuffed knuckles and about 30 mins later finally got the spring back on! The screws on that cover always like to rust too. What are they screwed into plastic or metal? I know the cover is plastic.
Might be good to Fo a SS swap out. |

Do you mean the clutch linkage cover in the engine bay?
Seemed ok to me, no rust on mine (yet!) Metal cover I thought but could be die cast or something? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

i think i nearly had a defender-induced mental breakdown when trying to refit that spring. The screetch the clutch was making was unbearable too though, so glad its done Cheers, David

Did the 'air box mod' using a Stanley and a sharp chisel heated with a blow tourch (tried the Dremel but kept snapping the discs!). Next job is to fit the 'Nugget Stuff' air intake kit that replaces the crap push fit restrictive pipework to the air box with sealed piping. This should allow it to breath better even if it does have a restrictive snorkel on.
Do we think it's worth sealing the water drain up... and how do people go about doing it? Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Pete 2010 Discovery 4 GS TDV6 1972 Series III 88" 2.25P |

David, yes that one could be the same not quite sure but yours is a few years newer so could be slightly changed.
I can imagine the problems you had with the spring, I think in the workshop they have a spring puller tool just for that much like for exhaust rubbers. PCA, A Dremel gas torch / soldering iron with hot knife works well. But it's always difficult what ever you do to neaten it up, I used some mini files to finish off. The drain hole I personally would leave alone UNLESS you actually intend to go wading in which case you should have a Snorkel and the rest of the pipe work fully sealed. I'll never be doing that so its factory for me bar KBX intake and the same mod you've done completed. It is worth doing, quicker throttle response |

Took off my rear wheel arch spat for a reason today.
Can you spot the problem left? I can sort it, but goes to show that I did have to replace it to sort this out. Click image to enlarge Then the CP will have to come off first and probably the rear quarter protection too. If it wasn't for the CP and protection there this would have been much worse. |

Took it to the dealer who installed the famous PEL500110 today. With that also came a full replacement of the coolant fluid, and they also did the 6 month engine oil and filter change.
Still to come this spring: 1. Scenelight S17 installation with on/off button in the spare space on the bottom of right hand side of the steering column. 2. Dinitrol reapplication should be done toward mid May by Carrosserie LEU near Basel. 3. Last but not least, this will be followed by two German high quality engine reliability/efficiency upgrades (both are hardware, no remap at all) which I will detail after they are done. Yeah, it's hard to get anything in there at the right angle. I tidied it up best I could with a sharp blade to remove a lot of the roughness. And the drain hole, I've got a snorkel fitted and the 'Nugget Stuff' intake kit to fit which replaces the factory plastic push-fit pipework to a sealed single flexi-pipe set up. I don't intend to go deep water wading, but you never know if you might end up stuck crossing a river etc. I'll probably leave it as it is and then tape it up if I ever have to cross anything deep. I have noticed a slightly quicker response when you hit the loud pedal. Not loads but just about noticeable. Pete 2010 Discovery 4 GS TDV6 1972 Series III 88" 2.25P |

my new McGuiars Clay Bar worked its miracles on my bonnet today... Following recommendations from Steve I got hold of the kit on Fleabay earlier in the week and decided to try it on the bonnet after the valet had washed and dried it, he also hung around to see the results and waxed it for me afterwards... AMAZEBALLS!?! A stunning difference that I would not have believed possible, it's like glass and almost as reflective as a mirror, simply awesome result for very little effort and just a few quid... Thanks Steve... Martin, you really must give the Clay Bar kit a go, it makes such a brilliant difference I would not have believed if I had not done it myself earlier today, awesomesauce... Rog... Finally got the Truck-lite LED Headlights mounted and load-shedding came in handy to see how they perform:
