Gilarion, so what you are saying is that the political parties manifestos are dissertation, "it’s a load of words whose only aim really is to tell the person who wrote them how ingenious they are and has no other purpose in life"? Rolling with laughter Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

It seems to me that an awful lot of people are getting very steamed up about this when no-one outside the BBC as yet knows what actually happened. Until what really happened, why it happened, who reported it and why is known, then I am reserving judgement.

I shall miss Top Gear, which, whilst flawed in a number of ways and not to everyone's taste, is a far more entertaining program than much of the the other brainless garbage on the TV, and I shall be sorry if the program reappears without Clarkson. Although he often makes me cringe, at heart I believe his views are more aligned with those of the ordinary person than many care to admit.

I don't understand why those signing the petition are citing "free speech" since he hasn't been taken off the air for what he's said. I hope that no-one would sign a petition advocating for the right to go and biff those with whom we have a disagreement (though it seems to be a widespread belief now that this right exits).

We don't - as far as I know - know what happened yet. If Clarkson decked this "It's my onion" fellow in a rage, he deserves what he gets. If, as I have heard, they were all three sheets to the wind and he adminstered a playful slap, then he probably doesn't. It seems that neither the biffer not the biffed have actually complained, so was it perhaps some BBC "luvvie" who saw the incident and has an anti-Clarkson agenda? Who knows.

The BBC has become a dreadful organisation and it pleases me that one of their biggest earners is a man whom the left-wing, politically-correctly, touchy-feely organisation must collectively despise for his outspoken politically-incorrect views and yet has to tolerate because of his income generation. I hope that it may long continue.

In the meantime I for one am bored with the speculation, and think that it is certainly inappropriate and sad if members of this forum fall out over the subject.

We had a chap hit the manager a few years back, I had to stand between them to stop it going any further. Once the dust had settled, the chap suspended and an inquiry took place, we had to think about how we progressed. The problem is that you can't quantify what happened in any way that made it acceptable, you can't say a mild punch in the face is OK if it is provoked because it allows people to punch each other in the face when there's a disagreement. What is a mild punch in the face? Something that doesn't leave a lasting mark, is that OK? Of course not. It's a road to nowhere and you can't set a foot on that road, best to stay off it all together.

The second problem we had was when he came back to work on a final warning the staff were tense around him, couldn't approach him with any problems or challenges. Having this extra member of staff was easily negated by the reluctance of interaction with him. In the end he accepted a (huge) redundancy offer and went off to do something else.

The point is, a line is crossed that you can't come back from. It can't be reasoned out and written down in company T&C's so it has to be outlawed. If Clarkson gets away with the alleged incident then IMO it shows the BBC operates a class system and doesn't apply rules evenly across the board, it'll be one step closer to getting rid of the TV tax. Top Gear is the one and only program I watch on TV, I don't want it to go but I can't support violence in the workplace.

I agree wholeheartedly. You shouldnt solve arguments with violence but unfortunately in some lines of work it does happen. Tempers flare and one thing leads to another.

The problem with the JC episode is that we dont actually have the facts. If he has indeed assaulted the bloke then he should be charged accordingly. If it was a 50/50 like what happens sometimes, then they should BOTH be suspended.

Might not be all the facts but seems a comprehensive version of them

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/top-ge...steak.html

and if you want to sign the petition it's here:

https://www.change.org/p/bbc-reinstate-jeremy-clarkson

The wording for the latter being:

"We the undersigned petition the BBC to reinstate Jeremy Clarkson.

Freedom to fracas."

Thanks for the link. Thing is though, something must have happened that we are unaware of yet. I mean how do you get from being told you cant have a steak to punching someone. Especially when it wasnt the victims fault the kitchen was shut. Something just doesnt add up..

Mmmm, I can't wait for the actual facts to come out. Whistle

If JC has clobbered someone then he must pay a suitable price - I reckon DC could get him the job of UK Ambassador to Argentina or Mexico maybe?
A couple of years doing that might mellow the man! Rolling with laughter

An earlier suggestion to dock him a week's wages may seem fair - plus I would suggest a written apology printed in the national press.
Maybe the alleged victim wants to press charges - that'd be a whole different ball game. Shocked

If he didn't hit someone then can we just publish the facts and get on with it?

I don't want to see TG end because of some fracas off-air.
I am surprised at the BBC, I thought - being entertainment - that they would believe "the show must go on". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clarkson's/TG's inflammatory comments just seem to have got worse over the last few years. It just seems like attention seeking, like a schoolkid swearing in class to get admiration from the other kids (or in this case to increase/keep viewers). Boring... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

As to being out of touch, you may think I am - I started my career in the coal mining industry, have worked in the rail industry and finished my career working for an offshore gas company. Somewhere inbetween I served several years in the military (TA) - so I think I've got around enough to know how real men behave, especially when they quite literally have each others lives in their hands on a shift by shift basis.

I was following this thread and admiring all the arguments being put forward. But when you admitted being in the TA, I'm sorry, you lost a lot of credibility in my eyes Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 110 D250 SE HT

I do not know why we cannot just accept that the wording behind the petition is totally irrelevant. Whoever started the petition simply raised the little bit of ragged confederate flag still burning inside many of us and we rallied behind it and signed the petition. The actual wording was just the 'staring gun' Everyone who feels JC is a tiny bit rebellious and totally fed up with everyone who feels they have to be offended by everything and in particular the liberals who run the BBC, signed it. Signing it does not mean you agree with violence or punching a work mate, the position has morphed into something much bigger and no picking over the wording of the original petition can bring it back
