looks like their are opertating under a different name.
http://www.biodiesel-fuel.co.uk/range/FF450.asp meth is released through bubbling the bio diesel after settling the glycerol out over several days then a final 'wash' with eco2pur. then a final 3micron filter. |

oh dear, I wouldn't put that in anything expensive as its going to have too much meth left in.
That's a pretty old design. Have a look at Graham Laming's build from the link below. By far the best system I have seen, he condenses the meth out so no  about with days of bubbling and hoping its gone.

One thing you need to consider with bio-diesel are the customs and excise boys. I phoned our lads up and asked whether it was legal to use cooking oil in my series 111. They said I could use anything I liked provided I paid the duty that would be levied on road fuel to what ever I was putting in the tank. If stopped and dipped-this does happen- I would have to prove that I had paid the correct duty for road fuel on whatever I had in the tank. The penalties for non compliance are severe. Vehicle would be lifted and a court appearance would follow. Cannot see your boys been lax about this issue either. Best to check before you put it into the tank. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Correct, this is an area which needs to be complied with. However, my understanding is that the UK (well England and Welsh) government introduced a scheme where you can use 2000 litres (or whatever the figure is) a year duty free, anything beyond this requires a self-declaration form and cheque submitting to cover the revenue. Its all a part of the detail I need to look into should Caterham and Porn convince me to go ahead

Harvey, your customs and excise boys seem to have a more relaxed view than ours. 2000 litres allowance a year seems pretty generous to me. If our lads thought the same I would give it a go.Then again it might be worth phoning them up once in a blue moon to tell them you are using 45 litres of cooking oil for road fuel and what is the duty due on it! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

In our household my wife, 6-month old daughter and I would in theory be able to access 6,000 litres which should give a good 35k miles a year coverage (for the Defender), but seeing as I am averaging about 600 miles/month, I think I am safe for a while

If your interested in bio, then i would advise looking at the link i made above. Graham's system is the best one I've seen and that includes the commerical ones.
You need a couple of old immersion heater tanks and your good to go. Pom |

pom - was doing a search and came across this again.
it got me thinking. the graham method is that it job done? as you mentioned with mine there would be alot of meth left in the mix. I don't think I mentioned that what comes out of my processor is 'raw bio', I then dry wash it using Ecopure (wood chippings) to absorb left over chemical residue. my only real measure of if this ok or otherwise is my wifes common rail injection has done 28k miles over almost 3 years without issue - that includes 100% bio through the winter too ! |

condensing it out is the best method by far. When i was more active making it, all the forum threads looked down on bubbling or scrubbing methods as they were not 100%.
