Not sure if this thread is too old but I'll give it a crack.....

Are the guys using 100% or a considerable percentage blend of biodiesel making any adjustments to their 2.4l Puma engines?

I'm looking at conversion kits from ATG and Elsbett. Are these irrelevant if the "chip fat" or raw vegetable oil has been properly converted into biodiesel.

England 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey
not run mine on 100% so don't know but come close to it and its run fine.......

only problem is mine runs fine only intermitently be it on bio or not. have had any bio in it for a little while now as I've run out and its no different?

although I've been making it for almost 4years and had no problems I'm starting to wonder if it does cause problems with rubber type seals.

I friend who been doing some research suggested that the 'rubber' used in the VW engines is different to what it used to be and hence these engines clearly state 'no bio' - that said my farther in law has been using it for a fews years on his 2 ltr tdi without issues varying from 0% to 100% bio so as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out.

my wifes old car (1.6 ltr 110 ps citreon - same engine as in ford focus?) also did 18k miles over 3 years on virtually 100% with no probs ?

Pihutze, what is all that talking about, what exactly do you mean by Biodiesel?

Up to some time ago there was a small fraction of up to 5% RME (canola oil ester) allowed in diesel. That is the life elixir LR allows in the PUMA manual (use diesel with up to 5% bio fraction). Nowadays (EN Norm) they put up to 7% FAME (unspecific fatty acids estered) into diesel, which is a totally different animal and so to say, much more biological waste then RME. Strictly speaking you are not allowed to put the current continental standard diesel with up to 7% FAME into the PUMA.

Pure bio fuel in contrast is most typically vegetable oil and yes indeed, the PUMA will eat that and eat it much better then FAME fractional diesel. Not to be mistaken for the 100% Biodiesel sold for agriculture use - which is 100% RME.

It aint easy and it will get even more complex.

(When I was young, my grandpa beat me for putting food in the tank ...times are changing and I am feeling old) Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.
