Fitting a new aerial? This may help....
I have just replaced the aerial on my Puma DC, and to avoid having to strip out the dash etc to run the lead for the new aerial back to the radio, I bought a female in-line aerial socket from Maplin for a massive £1.99.

This meant that I simply cut the lead off the old aerial and fitted the socket adjacent to the aerial location. Subsequent replacements (and I am sure there will be more) will be very simple.

I don't know why on the Defender LR didn't use the same technology as on the D2 - an aerial integrated with the window glass. Totally vandal resistant and tree-proof.

Great tip! I always lower mine when leaving the vehicle unattended to prevent some scrote from vandalising it, subsequently the top two sections are worn and will no longer stay up for long, may have to look at a replacement myself soon! Did you fit a standard replacement or go for something a little more robust?

Probably because not all defenders have "side" windows (where the aerials are usually mounted).

Front screen would probably limit vision; wind up door windows would probably break the cable eventually.

I reckon the only decent panel that would do, would be the alpine roof glass, but not all rovers have these.

90% of the time I drive around with the aerial down and get a good radioreception. Only on long trips or in rural area's I pull it up.
