Thanks for all the posts and info. as always very informative...I think I'll go for a Scenelight mounted centrally above the rear door with a dash mounted switch..from the feedback it seems to satisfy my requirements.Anyone any suggestions for a suitable illuminated push switch that won't look out of place with the rest of my standard LR switches..thinking of locating it next to the cigarette lighter I don't have heated seats.... and picking up 12v and earth by tapping into the cigarette lighter feed. Grateful for any comments...

Two things to do that cost practically nothing, foot lightly on the brake pedal will bring in a load more lights. Second, if you're reversing up your drive or somewhere regular, screw a reflector to where you want to reverse to so you can aim the car at it.

Thanks for the tips, I live in the country and a mile or so up a single track bridleway no lights and few passing places..Occasionally I may have reverse some distance if there is a vehicle coming the other way and does happen hence my predicament..

Have you ordered the Scenelites?
I've recently bought a newer scenelite that suits the back of the defender better as it is smaller and lower profile. The light output is a bit lower but its still massive amounts for reversing. I bought 2 Brendan , total cost including VAT and delivery was £127.
Had I bought them from Mud I would've paid £135.60, so no regrets. Having to wait an extra day for delivery wasn't a deal breaker for me.I've had them a few days and they are still waiting to be fitted. Just a quick question............Those that have fitted the Scenelite's . Does the spare wheel cast much of a shadow when used as revers lights? Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.

The SI7 may have less of a shadow as they are not as low profile. Thank you, I was thinking of placing a set just as you have them, just wanted to see what light was available both for reversing and to illuminate the caravan hitch.
Did you just take a feed from the original light? Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off.

The light for reversing is amazing and if you are against a caravan you will get loads of reflected light.
I have mine wired to my auxiliary fuse box temporarily. The plan is to add a couple of relays to allow different switching options and maybe even a light sensor and timer as get me home lights.  http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

That looks like such a neat solution. How easy was it to relocate the washer jet? I suppose you've got all the trip off anyway by then to fit the light so is it just a case of drilling an extra hole? |

Great thread - I'll need to get this done as my gateposts are big and not-far-enough-apart. Also useful for reassembling the mountain bike, and loading the trailer.
Added benefit - returning a bit of extra light for full-beam and/or illegal fog light users behind  Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I fitted the Scenelight 17 lights a while back. Here is a picture taken of just reverse light alone (helped by my iPhone camera flash). Looking out onto my drive way from the garage. no street lights here so pitch black.
