Hello zone30
Excellent idea... Now look what you've started... Keep it simple, and it could work, one 'on mass' drive by of the factory, timed to coincide with the production of the last 'official' Defender would be my vote, (or something similar). It would be good to have a final 'park up area' as I imagine Land Rovers will be driving in from all directions initially, as always it's in the detail, but it should be possible to keep the basic idea easy to explain, and easy to do. Suggestion... If the idea gains traction, and we reach a consensus of what we would like to do, I would be happy to try and 'connect' with JLR PR to see if they recognise the value / tribute opportunity here, they may be totally uninterested, who knows, they may for example see it differently, that there not stopping the Defender just significantly updating it, (even keeping the name) but maybe they will be positive and even come up with some suggestions to add to the 'event'. Anyway great idea...it's got me thinking. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Hi Guys, a rally to Solihull by all means, and elsewhere I see someone said keep it simple.
However, a trip to Red Wharf Bay - NO WAY for me, I'm not driving my newish Defender on a sandy saltwater beach for anyone. I struggled at near zero tremps to put Dinitrol on it from brand new and I'm not going to willingly spray it with saltwater. (And yes I do use it off road every week and it does get, and is, very mucky but I do my best to preserve it and keep it cleanish). Cheers. 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Hi All
Check this out... http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2015/01...-defender/ I think it would be good (for those who want to) to have Red Wharf Bay as a starting point, for an Owners Tribute Drive to Solihull... LL75 8RJ to B92 8NW. If there's an ETA at Land Rover, others can arrive from any direction to join in (the as yet unplanned finish). If as zone30 suggests there may be a few who would be interested in coming over from Europe, it may be more convenient for some just to head to Land Rover rather than to possibly drive past it, to come back. Again the basic idea needs to remain simple, to accommodate individual preferences of how to join in. 'We' should also ask members of the 'Series Clubs' that are out there to join in. I like the idea... I'm in. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html Last edited by X4SKP on 6th Feb 2015 10:29pm. Edited 1 time in total |

i will try and repeat try lol, to get hold of someone at land rover HQ today on my lunch break and see if there is anything we can sort out, but first off are wee looking for a date soon or in the summer?
Also might be a idea to start getting a list together of who would be up for this or not so we get some info on how big this could be? A Convoy Thread with a poll? Stu |

i think the only problem may be people not wanting to go near salt water as we know what happens to lr when that happens lol and also if everyone has spent time to clean, polish and tart theres up some may not want to spoil this as if we could we could maybe get the papers involved and land rover uk etc?

Salt water's no problem if you give it a rinse off. Mines been used for launching the jet ski etc and alright I have waxoyled it regularly and always rinse it down after but it's A1 underneath, I check it regularly.
But it should be something everyone is happy doing to get as many as possible in on it. Maybe a few start locations for different regions could convene in one place (Solihull?) Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Yep would be good to hear whether they're interested in supporting or publicising it at least. If LR themselves contacted dealers etc and posted on FB/Twitter then we could probably get a big turnout!
Wonder if they have a location suitable in Solihull for everyone to turn up. Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Well this certainly seems to be moving along now - and I suspect this could become a 'huge' event, and as such, would really need the backup of JLR in some form. It woud be good if they could provide some support too like 'Land Rover Assist' to deal with breakdowns etc, and co-operation of various Police forces too I should imagine, even news channels to warn people of potential traffic delays.
I am pretty sure the 'Series' clubs would come on board too - it was the Series One club who did made the same journey from Red Wharfe Bay to Solihull to celebrate Land Rover's 35th Anniversary. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

They would probably rather it ended at Gaydon - but a 'drive by' should still take place at Solihull. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

This has my vote too. I like the idea of arriving at lode lane as the last defender rolls off the production line. |
