Does not matter what fuel you use as long as you use this

david,
I don't doubt what you say that it all comes from the same place but it does begger the question of how one of the super markets a few years back managed to screw up a load of engines due if I recall as a result of a high silicon content? |

Just look at my avatar, and see what a search "BP Ultimate" turns up. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Best thing to do would be to run your Def until nearly empty, give the cash to your wife/girlfriend/partner(obviously, only if you trust them!!) and get them to fill up to the top with different types and keep a record of what went in and when. After half a dozen of fills you decide what it runs better on. Forget the Placebo effect as its a load of bo11ocks AND MOSTLY GIVEN AS AN EXCUSE BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. Your talking about a mechanical system with a car.
BP ultimate and Shell V+ ARE better, but don't forget Texaco as they have a better quality too. Also, don't forget to take notes on the type of driving and the temperature as your vehicle will more than likely feel that it has more power when the weather is a bit colder. Plus take into account altitude, etc, etc, etc...... Just watch the high ratio Bio cr4p diesel. That is the stuff you want to avoid like the plague. Other than that, put in what you want to put in and just enjoy it. Oh, and just because it says Ultimate/V+, ETC it doesn't, necessarily mean that that is what is going to come out of the pump unless you trust the petrol station. There have been a couple of franchises around the North West over the years that have been pretty unscrupulous. |

We live close to Kingsbury Oil refinery and can confirm that Tankers of all Brands and All supermarkets regular frequent the same refinery for their Diesel supplies.
The diesel is without doubt refined the same...but each suppliers have their own additive supplied at source. Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black Mini Electric................Grey. (wow!) Now 350k miles almost exclusively with Ultimate (BP/ARAL on the continent) in the 90. Wifey is burning standard diesel (this for the engine not authorized 7% FAME EU ) and has a lot more engine trouble ... worth more then the price difference would have been ... Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Fully agree,....... But we here do not have that problem, Switzerland never authorised biodiesel, so all diesel sold here is B0 (B zero) You never actually own a Defender. Shell customer simply because it's the least expensive in my area. Can't comment on on BP Ultimate, but I never noticed a better performing engine filling the tank with VPower. I did noticed the increased performance of my fuel pump. It empties my tank a lot faster. Needless to say, I'll just fill up with their regular diesel... |
