If JLR adopt this modernist design it will be a shame. The Defender design has proved itself over decades and looks distinctive, it stands out from the crowd as being different. This concept looks like any other smooth lined metro sexualised Chelsea tractor and premier league footballers dream toy.

The other downfall this design has in my opinion is that any type of exterior mod will just make the thing look more unsightly than it already does. It will also probably come out in a range of bright garish colours to appeal to the mass market. God help us!

"Piston stuffing machine" - wouldn't have believed it if I'd not heard it with my own ears! Laughing

42 seconds to build an engine great! What happens this winter when we have power cuts? One engine a day!

I have not read the article in the press release BTW as I don't listen to that Censored .

My thoughts For what it worth If you drive a 200 or 300 please don't read on as you are going to be very upset Thumbs Up

It will have various engine options from big power to electric/diesel eco.

It will have a solid/fixed mounted electric powered rear diff with independent suspension.

Three body sizes/lengths each with different trim levels ie farmer, standard then posh giving 9 base options that can then be specked up or down.

When off road it will make all the other LR products look like a duck on smack trying to cross an ice covered lake.

We (The Public) will be able to mod the body to suit various work requirements.

It wont leak

It WILL be quiet

It will be reliable

It will be a very nice vehicle Thumbs Up

...But it won't be a Classic.

Even if it is better in every possible way, it still won't have the romantic appeal of the original.

And for that reason it won't be as valuable on resale. 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

Hope so! I'm excited.

And besides, there'll always be the option to simply build your own pre-2015 defender anyway from parts Cheers, David

How can it be a classic it's brand-new.

It will have more appeal.

I bet it will.

I am with andrew and am already working hard saving up. Not really bothered about looks, I'll be too busy driving it. I liked some of the ideas in dc100 write up. The simple ipad style dash and the none rip seats. An automatic gear box.

The clever electric diff sounds great for off-roading and dragging the 3.5tonne trailer about.

I thought I was the only one saving. I just hope it has character and the same appear to both those who work the land and own it. Love driving my td5 hope I will like the new one as much.

It won't be the same it can't but it doesn't stop it being good

I wish the new Defender was an Ovik Crossway built under licence by JLR. I recon that it would be ideal for most on this forum! Very Happy
