Alan,
I don't disagree however its not a very technical approach really. I have undertaken possibly one of the best upgrades to the defender which is wonderful but alias as with most positive actions there is always a negative. having recently installed a new subwoofer for the stereo this has made a huge difference in so much that I can turn the volume up and many of the noises are drowned out unfortunately I now never quite sure if its the subwoofer or the under carriage rumbling due to an immanent failure ! |

Dude, you have my sympathies, owning a Landrover can be a test of human endurance and the spirit. An ancient Chinese proverb goes,"a man who has never owned a Landrover has no soul,if he still own Landrover, he has no brains".Hope this helps . Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

I can't believe this thread has now been running for 7 pages! Very funny stuff. Keep it up lads. Makes a good distraction from all that pesky fault finding. Sometimes It is better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission.

Update on My 1000 mile test drive after 3 wks of major surgery . Ran like a dream at 65 all the way . Was hoping I might join your 500+ club but sadly 300 was my best . |

Keith. That's great news, really pleased for you - hopefully all the pain / problems can all be put into the history books now so to speak and many happy miles / years await you.
I guess the low mpg is a small price to pay for running like a dream? Anyhow at 65 you'll never get optimum mpg but at least you'll get to where you're going a whole lot sooner |

tis a done deal.
played with the transfer box linkage last night. All I really did was spray with ACF50 and wiggle it. the transfer lever didn't go returning to the central position by itself and it ran beautifully smooth this morning (even raced a 3 series bm and won ). seriously tho I'm amazed I (or anyone else for that matter) never thought of the diff. Looking back it seems so obvious; scrubbing on the inside / outside of both front tyres the feeling of understeer round corners the rattling the poor change of gear / feeling of transmission slop / course take up on clutch the groaning sound when slowing down the pulling away quickly when turning right off my drive only for the speed to drop off like the accelerator pedal has stopped working the diff lever constantly returning towards the centre between diff lock on / off. |

Try unplugging the tow electrics and see if it makes a difference

Check the earths ...and I don't mean the soil Have you done any work [removed carpets etc] around the brake pedal lately, if check the connections to the brake light switch. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Thanks guys.
Not done anything recently other than lube the transfer box linkage. Only had 5mins on it so far. Feed at fuse ok, fuse ok. Will check for feed at switch next then look for feed at brake lights...... Thinking about it the earth must be ok at rear side lights work fine and I presume they use the same earth? ?? |

turns out was simply a dodgy switch.....
also looks like this was the problem part that made my brakes stick on, on two occasions (although can't be 100% sure). |

Back to brakes.
If I've had a problem relating to the front brake could this in anyway impact on the engine /ecm? Ie could the abs pick up an issue and pass it onto the ecm in the same way that the brake pedal / brake lights do? |
