Really?

If you go in through the intake hole in the wing you'll have to drill an exit hole from the intake plastic (if that makes sense)Question I know they're not very well sealed anyway but that'll surely introduce more problems.

Also - are you suggesting routing the wires down the inside of the snorkel?

Surely the best thing would be to keep the wires outside, but attached to, the snorkel and then trace them across the top of the wing in the corner and straight under the bonnet. I know it won't look as neat but surely better than drilling more holes in the intake.

Failing that, in through the roof, under the headlining and down a pillar. (I've not tried to remove and reattach the headlining so I can't say how difficult that is).

Confused. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Is it not that all light mounted more than 1.4 metres above the ground level are not to be used on public roads?

When wiring in the lights on my 02 G4 110 to restore back to original, I ran all the wires through the inside of the snorkle using an industrial wiring gland, then fitted wiring connectors to connect the roof lights to. The loom came out just below the mushroom top facing rearwards. I had to take it apart again though after finding one of the gland grommets on the floor when I was crimping the top wiring plugs on.

This enabled the roofrack to be removed without having to cut the loom again, unlike how Land Rover did it originally.

Roof mounted lights must be able to be switched off with vehicle main beam to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic.
There a few vehicles that you can specify rooflights on from new - Nissan X-trail, Honda CRV and artic tractor units.

Shocked Shocked
So much cables to install 4 lamps?
Looks like the back of my old desktop computer.

By the way, putting all this cables inside the snorkel will reduce the airflow mass?

Cheers Eduardo

The lights are wired as an inner and outer pair switched using 2 warn switches. The lamps are are also fitted with dip and main beam facility. Earths were taken back down to the battery.
The wires inside the snorkle did not have an apparent effect on performance or economy. Adrian

AG4110,

Please, please don't take this the wrong way, but as an aircraft electrician for over three decades I would not have been in such a rush to post such a wiring abomination for public viewing. I've seen fewer cables at an electrical sub-station hooked up to the National Grid, it looks like something out of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The quick-release connector was a good idea to facilitate removal but the rest??? Too overcomplicated with the switching options hence the need for more and more cables in my opinion.
What on earth were you thinking? Bullet proof it certainly is!

Apart from the extra half a ton of weight of copper core cable it's lugging around...

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I may have misinterpreted the rules but as dipped beams have a maximum permissable fitment height of 1.2metres that would render them the same as my 240XGTs on the public road (with 100watt filaments) as inoperable according to the guidelines! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I really have been missing out on all the hot topics whilst I have been away!!

Mal, you sure do have a way with words..... a certain level of brutality....but being a RADAR/ Electronics technician myself, that install is waaaaaaayyyyyy over engineered. When I will be fitting mine I will have a maximum of two dual core cables routing up..... connector blocks on the back of the lights.

Legally, you have to have a master switch, indicator on your dash and only work on main beam.

Hi, Lo as in Main/ Dip? What is the point, other than it being illegal to have dip beam so high up, to have it so that it wouldn't dazzle oncoming drivers it would only be lighting up your bonnet?

Hello Glyn,

To me 'a spade's a spade' and I say it like it is...Hence the reason I'm still 'a Chief Tech!' No regrets though and I did say I hope he didn't take it the wrong way...I will also bend over backwards to assist people if I can, or come up with a suitable resolution. The lights needing three cables each doesn't mean you have to run 12 down the snorkel. The dipped/main feature of the lights are immaterial as Glyn said. So realistically you could have binned the dip feature and the selective pair switching and got away with a single two core cable and parallelled off either at the rack with blocks or looped the supply at a suitable quick release connector with sufficient contact pins/sockets. If a suitable earth could be sourced/made 'up top' you could even get away with a single cable.

I found the pictures a right laugh truth be told!! Laughing Laughing
