off we go......no we don't
guys.....not having any real experience with the def / tdci I'm wondering if the following is a 'normal' trait....

jump in car first thing in the morning, start up, pull off drive and then just before I'd go for second gear (so I'm guessing somewhere between 1500 - 1750 rpm) the engine dies......normally I'd just go for second however more recently I've deliverately left the 'go' pedal in the same position and hey presto the engine speed drops to tick over?

any thoughts?......It only seems to do it when I first pull off from cold?

I might have a few hours this weekend to do 'some digging' so to speak and any pointers would be much appreciate (and no I'm not going down the route of petol and matches.....at least not just yet Very Happy )

One thing I want to look at is the ecu connections (is this as straight forward as you might expect...ie just pull the loom / plug out - good squirt of contact cleaner and replace). ?

I'm looking t replace the fuel filter again but suspect I may have left this too late to order up for the w/e ? (I see a call to Steve at AF coming on).

When you say the engine dies, do you mean that it stops or the revs drop to tick over.

Mine can be a bit of a fiddle when cold from 1st to 2nd, but I have found it best to remove my foot full from the accelerator before even touching the clutch, the ECU then seems to do the rest in matching RPM etc for the gear change. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW

My guess is air in the fuel line.
Fuel slowly draining back while the engine's off leaving a 'bubble'.

basically the engine revs drop back to tick over (c1000 rpm) without touching the clutch.

(normally when this happens I depress the clutch change to 2nd and away we go no probs) - clearly its not a problem as I change to 2nd and off I go........

the point I'm trying to get to is whether this is normal or not. if it isn't then clearly I like to understand whats causing it, try to resolve it and see if it has a positive effect on anything else.

Thumbs Up

oh.

part of me says likely because my other 'issues' seems like fuel starvation......

the other part of me says I aint got a clue....

if you're right....where would I start looking?

I guess its no suprise that changing the fuel filter saw a short lived but obvious improvement based on the above?
again when tank was replaced this had a great but short lived improvement?

in I know where I'm going to start looking......

I had some clowns replace my gearbox with a big hammer - might be worth having a look around there first ?

anyone suggest 2nd best place to start looking?

A faulty VCV can cause similar symptoms.

If you've changed it then it's definately the prime suspect in my book. Sure you've not fitted it upside down, wrong orientation, in the right place, on the right vehicle.......

only joking.
time to fit another filter to see if it improves things again.?

Me I'll start. £4......

With 5843 members at £4 each I reckon we'd be in with a chance and we'd get some peace from the relentless 'Caterham's got yet another issue' scenario.

At least we've moved on from the EGR blanking multiple threads. Whistle
