You are not alone... Mine goes in for number 3 this week! Who knew that diffs are expendable items that you change when you do the oil! I'm getting concerned that this may become a yearly ocurrance

Unbelievable! have they check on the chassis geometry? (in case it is totally FU). Must be a faulty diff casing. I would also ask for new halfshafts, bearings, etc.
Somewhere in this forum Dave Aschcroft gave an explanation about dodgy factory setup on later LR diffs. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

just reading your thread and am amazed. I was under the impression that Landrovers have been built for 40+years and should be engineering wise top notch.
Putting diffs in one after the other with no effect would tell me, who knows all about grease monkeying, that it aint the diff at fault ? Has the QA at Landrover got this bad with the launch of the puma derivative or has it allways been ropey ? For comparison I have an Audi and frequent an Audi forum much like this one, obviously there are many more audi's on the road than Landrovers, and there are nowhere near the quantity of tales of woe like on here. It does make you wonder whats going wrong at LR. Pom |

Next to a few LR's my wife has a 2006 Volvo V50 next to the regulare service it has been to the dealer regulary because of a irritating noise. They have changed heatshields and other parts. the noise sounded to come from the right front of the car. The problem was it comes and goes it's not always there.
A few weeks it ago it was bad again and this time they may have found it. It was the rearview mirror holder that vigrated against the windscreen. I has been quiet since. I took only 4 years to find it. The moral of the story is that the sound may come from somewhere completely different. Hi,
I am not surprized, we have had new diffs and had to strip them, reshim the pinion as they were too tight and reset the backlash as they had zero , they need min 4 thou, I had an australian dealer emailing me last week who wanted to buy some of our ring and pinions to put in a customers new car as they had lost faith in the landrover diffs, I wonder if this was for your car, Dave Dave |
