Hope you get it sorted Tim, seems quite a few of the 2007 models had diff problems. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Yeah same here, fairly loud whine when backing off from 120kph down to 70kph on motorway. I'm told "they all do it", just feel that mine is somewhat excessive.

Tim, I bought a TD5 new in 2001 and experienced what I thought was a rear diff whine at at around 100 - 110kph.
The dealer said it wasn't the diff but the transfer gears. I didn't believe him, but he changed the gears and the noise went away. Just a thought. Austen. Rover 12 1935 Rover 20 1940 Rover 100 1960 Defender TDC1 2008 FL2 TD4 2008 |

Tim,
One would assume that the diffs removed from your vehicle would possibly have been subjected to further investigative action. I would enquire if that is the case what was found i.e. was there any excessive signs of wear/stress etc. If not ask the dealers to have a closer look at the next one or one of the ones that have been removed previously. Either way it should either reveal you have a serious problem or lay your mind to rest as nothing physical was evident. Good luck! Tim,
I have a 2008 90XS and I have been fortunate enough not to have suffered any differential problems to-date. I do however sympathise with your plight. I am surprised that to date Land Rover have been prepared to continually throw diff after diff at your vehicle in the vain hope it will sort itself out. If I were you I would be 'as insistent as one could be' taking the history of your vehicle into account and insist on further more-detailed investigation and a replacement vehicle until such time as yours is sorted. They'll soon get to the root cause if you create a little commotion especially within earshot of other potential customers. Good luck! I some times wonder (and caught our last dealer out) whether they do make any changes at all!
I cant believe (and know that they arent) that multiple new replacements are approved and complete. I took to marking in several places, the items to be changed - after a couple of times they started to replace items (BTW it was using paint markers LR use to mark parts at production so they couldnt scratch it off!) Its a sad world. Mike |

Hi,
I have a 2008 110 with the same issues. Had a whining noise coming from the rear, Stealers said it was the transfer box and replaced it at 19000km. Noise did not disappear, then they order a new diff, had to be shipped all the way from England, don't carry it in stock in South Africa???? Replaced the rear diff, which I did thought was the issue, now much better, still a slight wine deceleration from 120 to 100, but much better! So my question, good idee to fit an ARB locker in the rear? Should also solve the problem, as far as I am aware it is a better quality 3rd member than the LR one, why I am considering this is my factory warranty expires in couple of months and I don't have the money to keep on replacing the diff every year!
