Suggest you dismantle completely, clean thoroughly and use a good quality sealant taking your time.

I'm far from happy let alone confident ATM, I can't hear it drawing in air in the wing. I can't afford for her to breathe water I was so close to drowning her last time I want peace if mind

Have you sealed the drain at the bottom of the wing to air box pipe? And the water drain in the sir filter housing? You can test by spraying brake/carb cleaner over the joints and hearing listening to the engine.

All drains are sealed, I'm happy with all of that, just the inner wing insert. Is there a one price replacement??

The product you have is not a Snorkel. It is a raised air intake. It takes in most of the air through the top, but does not seal properly. I have bought RAI's before, trying to seal them, and using that plastic airbox inside the wing, you are simply not going to seal it. It is too rubbish to be sealable.
Raised air intakes are more for dusty climates, to prevent solid particles getting in, rather than keeping water out. Only a proper snorkel, which has a through pipe from the outside of the wing, to the inside, and by-passing the naff Land Rover plastic inner wing mounted airbox to attach straight to some more hose will seal this properly. Very few have managed to make a mere raised intake into a reliable water-tight snorkel. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This is what a proper snorkel will be like: 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

As said above, one of the reasons why I'd personally choose a Safari if I got one set all. No Guts, No Glory.

Oh... Looks like I'm going to be modifying my "raised air intake" then as I prefer the pre-cleaner look, sounds silly but could I delete that inner wing piece and run a pipe from the air box all the way up the raised intake ??

Yup Perhaps I should have phrased it differently. Going the conventional route, of sealing that box, won't work, but us lot being the creative minds that we are, the alternatives for modification are endless...good luck 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Conventional is one word that has never been used to describe me, mind you anyone who considers a 90 as a viable everyday car is far from conventional. Cheers all I will let you know what the outcome is, either I'm getting wet or I'm replacing 5 con rods hopefully not the later.

What you mean is a raised air intake is about as effective as the doors seals.......

Just take your time, clean everything, use loads of good quality sealer, and get stock of lots of hand wipes.
It can be done. I had a mantec plastic jobby snork, sealed it well, massively overloaded every joint, and got to a point that it would stall the engine when was blocked, worked with water over the seats. Andy |
