There is a known fault on the handbrake lever. The wire to the switch runs over the fulcrum and can rub on the arm. This can wear through and earth the circuit, which will cause the handbrake light to be on all the time. If this is what is happening to yours, then take off the rubber cover and wrap the wire with a bit of tape.

Mine had this problem, with symptoms just like yours.

Mud in the system can also stop it going out.
Mine's had a new cable and a lot of cleaning since I bought it.
Light still stays on sometimes.

My light is intermittent so was thinking switch, will take the gaiter off and have a look when I get a moment! Adventure isn't paved!
