Yep level checked this morning and was fine and I would say quite clean for a 10,000 mile engine.
Since the last oil change in May of this year the Defender has done approx 5500 miles of which there has been a lot of short stop start journeys…. So I was wondering if the oil condition was monitored and it has become contaminated due to the DPF… or has the dealer forgotten to reset the diagnostics. ![]() 90XS Hardtop |

From Google....
http://www.lrspares.co.za/workshop/defender-service-interval *Please note the service indicator may activate frequently prior to the scheduled service, this is based on the driver specific drive-cycles. The engine oil only and oil filter must be changed when the service light is activated prior to the scheduled service interval. This is monitored electronically and reported by the vehicle on interrogation. Replacement vehicle order as per ECPS to be aligned with the intervals noted above. It might be there is no issue anyway, I seem to remember that that can come up on there if the dial binicle it's self is un-plugged. Has it been or maybe loose? I could be barking it the wrong tree anyway but I seem to remember some one had similar occur.
I'd disconnect the battery for ten minutes and then reconnect it and see if it still displays. If it isn't a nuisance and it really is an issue diagnostics should give you more info using the logged DTC's if any are present that should point you to the issue. Now you have me thinking
![]() it went in about two weeks ago for a wiper motor change, perhaps they disconnected the binnacle then! Or on the other hand perhaps the oil is gopin and is indeed in need of a change ![]() Next question ![]() If I change the oil and filter, will the light go off or does it have to be reset by the dealer. ![]() ![]() 90XS Hardtop |

If it doesn't go off once the battery has been reconnected and the oil and filter has changed then it might well do.
I doubt this will be the case though. Mal - you've beaten me again! I reckon your right. Grrrr ![]() Happy Christmas my K9 friend. ![]() ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

I didn't even know Defenders had an Oil Service warning on the dash! I've seen it in our FL2 and D3, but I didn't think the Defender was that advanced

It has to be reset by a dealer and Westovers (my local) will charge you for this. You are quite entitled to carry out your own oil change as long as you keep the receipt and purchase the right spec BUT you cannot get rid of the light.
I am unsure whether a half-decent fault code reader will clear it if you have one. Merry Christmas to you too Steve (Kona). Just getting even for the 'ego dig!' It pains me to say it but you were right ya know!. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! About a year ago Bryan Avill my mate who sadly passed away recently had exactly the same conundrum when he changed his own oil on his 2.2. He didn't half give the dealer some stick but they wouldn't budge on charging for the reset. Quite a lot too! Season of Goodwill? Bah Humbug! It's a good money spinner then....
Anyone know exactly how it is created? Similar to DTC codes? Do all Puma models have it? Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |
